TaintedMess wrote:you prove my point you can be pretty sure your not immortal because your human and we know humans die of old age if something else dosen't get them first. Garro however is not human and clearly at that point in imperial history no space marine had died of old age (interestingly though Imperial fists seem to retire) and he had already lived a very long time at that point there was also obviously a suspicion that space marines were immortal or as near as dam it

I'm sorry, I don't understand. The only point I was trying to make was that Garro saying he was going to spent the rest of his life on the moon doesn't indicate he's immortal.

TaintedMess wrote:The Emperor is pretty far from human unless its been hit with a retcon he was the combined presence/essence/whatever of the earth's most powerful shaman who all committed some form of weird ritual suicide and were reincarnated as the Emperor (think I'm re-calling my fluff correctly).

That's correct. However, the vessel the shaman katamari chose to inhabit was a regular infant as it was being born (presumably destroying the infant soul, yay 40k!). I believe the Emperor was referenced as having a birthplace somewhere in Mongolia with regular parents.

TaintedMess wrote:Now I'm no biologist but that to me suggest that senescence is not just a natural thing but can be caused by external events how many toxins do you think a marine comes into contact during battle also what about elemental conditions they encounter such as desert worlds all of those are going to have a effect on how aged his skin looks also looking old is more than just wrinkly he was under some form of depression so probably wasn't filled with the same vitality of his fellow battle brothers.

Your own body is producing toxins via the process of respiring. If Space Marines cells have been shown to undergo senescence from external toxins, they will be just as susceptible to the internal toxins their own bodies are producing.

TaintedMess wrote:I cant imagine things like cancer, heart disease or liver failure being all that common with space marines unless there was a external cause or perhaps a defect that was missed in the original screening of the aspirant but i would think that's pretty uncommon.

Liver disease and heart defects in old people are caused because enough cells fail from senescence that the entire organ can no longer work. You could have the healthiest heart in the history of mankind, but if you age long enough it will eventually fail (although another organ would probably fail first if your heart was that good...).

TaintedMess wrote:Not strictly true time dose not flow in the warp as it dose in the normal universe go read soul hunter the night lords in that story have been active for 10,000 years from the imperial point of veiw but from there own point of view its only been 10 years since they fled to the eye after the death of there Primarch

That certainly happens, but it isn't universally true. There will be CSM who have lived 10,000 years since the HH. Indeed, the opposite could also be true, CSM who have experienced more than 10,000 years since the HH because of warp-induced time dialation!

Besides which, Chaos can ressurrect the dead. That's immortality right there.

TaintedMess wrote:I think your the one that has it backwards there a Primarch basically a walking demi god further enhanced by both a expertly crafted suit of armour and the blessings of all 4 of the chaos gods should have been able to kill anything that he came against but instead was defeated by the emperor who you claim is nothing more that a particularly powerful Psychicer. So even as raised up as Horus was he was only just a match for the Emperor

Yeah, Horus is genetically engineered and in fantastic armor. The Emperor is a psyker and in fantastic armor. The Emperor is still more powerful, because powerful psykers that can rip apart Titans and destroy entire worlds. Genetics and brawn aint got nothing on that! The Chaos blessings made it a relatively even fight, which is why they both get fatally wounded.

TaintedMess wrote:How do you know what the Emperor was he was a skilled scientist with a immense understanding of genetics and probably the most powerful Psychic entity on the planet who knows what changes he made to him self.

Genetic engineering doesn't work like that. You can't change the DNA of an organism made of trillions of cells. Even if you could change the DNA of every cell, that organism would just die. DNA is scaffolding for proteins, it doesn't directly control the shape of your body or it's organs.

Note that i said

"skilled scientist with a immense understanding of genetics and probably the most powerful Psychic entity on the planet"

Its not beyond the realms of possibility that he could use his immense Psychic power to change his own body after all the chaos gods do it all the time.

But back to the space marines do space marine bodies produce toxins that they cant handle? I mean they can generate acid that will eat through flesh in seconds but swallow it with no ill effect.

Also it occurred to me that perhaps there bit like the highlander immortals yes there immortal but only when there's another immortal in the world. Maybe the Emperor built in some kind of fail safe to the Marines that so when there's nothing left to fight they begin to age (all be it slowly)

In short I'm not sure why your convinced that Marines aren't Immortal none of the evidence given says there not.
