Something I have found helpful is keeping them out of the battle for a few turns. When I rush them ahead, they are the first thing shot up and killed. If I keep them back, out of sight, until later in the game, they are more likely to survive. They move quickly, so no need to rush them ahead on the first turn or two. As others have said, cover is your friend. They are also helpful in counter assault- even just a small squad of them.

Just for your second question, yes, Landspeeders are great. They are my favorite unit.

Lord Kas wrote:I used to like to take the good old Jump Pack marines and have had some few small successes with them but in the main I find that they
die very quickly and easily and are very easy to deploy badly.

Even with 12" movement they are to slow to reach most armies before dying
and even then with 3 attacks and 3+ armour save they dont seem that good in combat against other races and die quickly.

Am I doing something wrong - I've heard that Storm boys are even worse.

What is the deal, for the same poitns as 10 men I can get 2 MM landspeeders and a heavy bolter speeder that would deal far more damage and probably survive longer.

Does anyone use them and how.
Also are landspeeders any good?

12"+running is faster than a rhino's 12", even if its only 1" faster!

Chop the shooty stuff, don't chop the choppy stuff. Assault marines ain't such CC beasts as you would hope. They are however choppy marines with big threat ranges that ignore terrain- use them for shooty squads in high places. Meltabombs/guns if you're CSM work wonders for tank hunting too.

They need to be preying on the squishier elements of your opponent- If they do go into CC against nasty things, its as backup, not as the main hitters.

As far as land speeders go, i have a love hate relationship to them. I've seen them used to great effect, even game changing effect, but they seem to be very very very poor performers in my hands (I've manged to hit 1 thing with a pair of multimelta speeders in my last three games. as in 1 hit out of the two of them. I rolled double 1's for my pen. roll )
