"honor herrington. again few thing come close."

Yeah...I've stayed the hell away from those books because I know the author... David Weber is a native of my own Greenville, SC, and he used to be an interesting fellow - a bit of a joker and raconteur - but I'm afraid he's gone around the bend into full-on Tea-bagger tinfoil-hat paranoid schizophrenia. Last time I saw him, he frothed at the mouth about Obama, fascism, communism and illegal FBI surveillance (yeah, they're all evidently connected) and pulled out a .45 pistol that he evidently carries around all the time...

...If you meet him at a convention, you've been warned!

Well that's a shame. You'd never guess, even from his recent writing (A Mighty Fortress-very soon )

I've read a few Magic: the Gathering books, although nothing can compare to The Thran (The ending is a real tear-jerker, no matter which side you hoped to see win). I'm also a huge fan of the Halo novels, which are very well-written and at times incredibly epic. Contact Harvest was simply amazing. Another great one (Albeit aimed at more of a teen audience) is the Midnighters Trilogy by Scott Westerfeld - the concept alone is really cool, and the finale of the third book is fantastic.

Oh, and I have to mention the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Harry Dresden is awesome, though the author really likes to have bad things happen to him.

The zombie survival guide by Max Brooks is currently one of my favorite books.

Second for me is World War Z also by Max Brooks.

Book that changed my views on the human condition was Lord of the Flies by William Golding.

Funniest book for me is The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

Favorite book's gotta be To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Also quite a fan of all the short stories written by Jose Luis Borges. Extremely clever, thought-provoking stuff.

I think anything that may contain the words "poop chute" can be disqualified as literature.

Personally, I wasn't that impressed with His Dark Materials; I only read the first one, picked up the second book expecting it to pick up where the first one left off. I was exceptionally disappointed.

The Adventures of Captain Alatriste (Arturo Perez-Reverte)
The Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone (Greg Keyes)
The Belgariad (David Eddings)

Just about anything true-life military or espionage. I particularly liked Sniper One (Sgt Dan Mills) and I'm currently reading Vengeance (George Jonas), which inspired the movie Munich.
