out of curiosity, did you fire the demo charge, or did you consider it to be too risky?

Too risky. He just popped up and said "We WIN!"

BTW Good to see you Ailaros. I remember you from my days on 40KOL (before Peanut banned me).

I once had him reduce a full unit of wraiths to a single very surprised warlock model...and then a unit of guardians shot him with shuriken pistols and killed him :-/

I wish I had your luck, Marbo has yet to perform for me. With everyone running mechanized lists, he often comes just a tad too early, with no good targets available. Placing him next to a transport and then popping it with long-rage firepower seems sensible in theory. However, in practice this is rarely how it works out. The vast majority of transports out there have multiple exit hatches, so if I threaten a transported unit with Marbo, and only manage to wreck the vehicle, my opponents have taken to exiting out of the hatch opposite of Marbo's location.* If you destroy it, you have your guaranteed targets, but now you have to deal with 4+ cover saves (bleh). In my last game, I placed him behind some transports with hopes of driving them out, and then my Vendettas proceed and EXPLODE both razorbacks, killing Marbo in the process.

I've taken to swapping him out for a SWS with a mix of flamers and charges as often as not. They don't have funky deployment rules, but they make my Gunship nice and scoring, with the option to drop them ~24 inches away to capture objectives and/or blast fools off of it.

*To deal with this issue, I try to threaten the unit from both sides, so if they want to avoid a demo charge barrage, they have to expose themselves to plasma rifles/cannons, veteran demo charges, lascannons, etc.

If he comes in too soon I usually place him out of the way and LOS so he can move, demo, assault . Instead of Demo, take lots of bullets.

Arn't the multiple exits pretty much either land raiders or rhinos?

In which case, just put him in front of the landraider or at the back of the rhino, it should be near enough to demo them either way if it's a wrecked result.

And on top of that, sometimes putting marbo in front of a land raider can be rather annoying to their movement phase

Marbo is awesome.

I like it the most when he's able to pop on the field after these is nothing else left to kill so he basically just hangs out for a turn or two.

My actually best Marbo success story comes from the Adepticon Gladiator.

It was the mission where the 'vortex grenade' was in play and you got extra points for detonating it like a suicide bomber.

I gave the grenade to Marbo.

He comes out on turn three, uses his demo charge to blow up a rhino with some plague marines in it that was screening a rhino with some Zerks.

I blow up the Zerk rhino and on their turn the Zerks end up being too far out of range to charge marbo. On my turn Marbo charges in and on his higher init he pops the vortex grenade and vapes all the zerks and himself scoring me mad bonus points.

2-point command squads.

Terminus our command squads are only 1 KP

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake.

No, they aren't. Look up the new FAQ for 5th edition, they have ruled that our Company and Platoon command squads give 2 KPs.

Just a note that Company Commanders no longer have the Independent Character Special rule that made them give up the 2nd kill point. Also there is no longer a "Junior Officer" entry in the book. It was an FAQ for the previous Imperial Guard Codex.
In the current one all of the issues for CCS/PCS and kill points are resolved as there is no retinue for a character just a selection of 5 models in the slot.

Drop Trooper with Demo Charge

Oregon

In total so far I've used Marbo in four games. In the first he scatterd his Demo Charge killed two Orks and my mortars promptly laid two wounds on him 1,2. Dead Marbo. I the second game he scattered the charge, killed nothing, charged two plague marines. No kills, dead Marbo. Third game scatters the charge 1" behind him. Cover save = 1 Dead Marbo! Fourth game Charge finally hits. 5 wounds on Havoks, 4 cover saves. Two CSMs rapid fire their bolters two wounds - you guessed it 1,2. Dead Marbo.

So in 4 games Marbo has killed a total of 2 orks, one Havok, and himself. I have never made a single cover save for him, and he has never lived beyond one turn.

I guess this is more of a suck-cess story, but thats how I see the useless bugger.

No one kills more threads than me. Maybe I leave nothing else to say. Maybe my comments suck so hard people are left stunned. Who can say.

It's on the GW website, and it was released in February of this year.

However, the question does refer to a Junior Officer, so it could be they copy&pasted it from an earlier document. Not that it really matters for IG, we're always at a huge KP disadvantage.

Oh man.
I can't think of a reason I wouldn't field Marbo, after reading this thread.
He's not restricted to catachan or anything, is he?

Best marbo story i had was him appearing, demo charging my mates ravenwing command squad, and wiping out all of them but one. my mate was nearly in tears lol.

and no hes a universal (soldier) special character. I use cadians and i've converted up a DooM marine to be my "counts as" marbo (catachan legs+body, top half of cadian arms with catachan bottom half with the valkry pilot head and a huge chainsaw)

yeah, I just looked through the august 2009 FAQ, and I can't find anything about officers being an extra kill point. Furthermore, the general FAQ states "A Command Squad is an independent character and his retinue, as defined on page 48 of the rulebook." Except for the fact that the codex nowhere states that officers are independent characters, and thus count as an upgrade to the squad.

As for marbo, yeah, he's a kill-point, but if he kills a unit upon his arrival, then at worst he's a wash.

I played Tau recently, Marbo popped up, killed a unit of pathfinders, ran across the table and killed an XV-9 battlesuit, then blew up a devilfish. Definately made his points back.
