I'll be frank-I love this guy. 65 points for a BS 5 demo charge with nice CC capabilities...what amazing stories do you have about him?

For example, today, as I fought a Tau, he came down behind a 3-man Crisis suit squad, nuked them, assaulted them, killed them all, moved onto a Stealth Suit team and destroyed them. Then he massacred a random Kroot that was laying around.

The next game, against Eldar, he came in by a squad of Warp Spiders, killed all of them with the demo charge, then assaulted a squad of Warlocks with Eldrad, killing two of them.
I think he got his points back (65) 3.8 times that game.

What shenanigans have you pulled off with him?

i haven't had much luck with him, only game he did well, was his demo missed the khorne demons, killed nothing, which was really really really bad luck. but then his shots knocked out a demon prince in a few turns which was nice.

He either is amazing or crap for me but I always take him just because for his cost he is crazy. In one game once I had him kill 2 Terminators, a five man scout squad, a five man tac squad, and a LS storm all by himself. Was pretty intense when he wounded and killed 5 Space Marines in one round of combat.

This man has eliminated more back field objective holders than I can count. That is my favorite way to use him.

I have had the demo charge scatter back on me before...

On one game my ally nuked 8 Sternguards with a demo charge (after his LR nuked the Rhino down).
So yep, he is a lot of fun but I would never bring him in anything else than the most friendliest games.

2 on 2 game, Tau and Guard vs CSM and Eldar.

He came in behind a Chaos lord on a bike and 2 biker CSMs, dropped a demo charge on them and killed them all. Next round, he fleeted into a squad of fire dragons, tied them up for 2 rounds, and then caught them in a sweeping advance. After that, he managed to soak up a guardian scatterlaser and took out a 10-strong guardian squad. MVP (and he didn't take a single wound).

I think Marbo is a pretty cool guy. eh kills aleins and doesnt afraid of anything

I almost always bring Marbo, being able to place a demo charge anywhere you want it is awesome. Unfortunately my opponents always go, "Oh Feth! Marbo!" and nuke him before I get a second turn with him. For a single guy, he takes an awful lot of anti tank fire. That and I seem to have a 50% chance of hitting hitting himself with the demo charge, BS5 be damned.

Of course when he does work it's spectacular. Actually blowing yourself up with a demo charge is pretty spectacular as well, so I guess it would be better to say that he's always spectacular and occasionally splendiferous.

I watched a guy play Marbo in a Everyone v Nids Apoc game. He placed Marbo in a building before the start of the game (hoping no one would see). Then on turn 2 when Marbo actually infiltrated in, he just left him there... so no one actually knew he was there. Then he nuked a bunch of zoanthropes, and the nids players were like WTF did he come from?! And the guy just looked at them, "He was right behind you." Marbo then proceeded to survive 2 turns stuck up in CC with 30+ gaunts killing many.

I'll tell you a Marbo unsuccessful story.

He was partying too hard, and got call into battle while drunk. After throwing a demolition charge at my nids, he watch the bomb bounce back after hitting a tree. Too drunk to dodge it. Tyranid cheers!!!

Marbo success story without killing anyone...
Land raider crusader with 7 wolf guard and logan squeezing down a road flanked by two ruins straight at my gunline. Marbo comes in on turn 2 and stands triumphantly in front of the land raider blocking his way. Rather than risk being melta bombed by a DoG attack he backs up and drives around the ruins, negating the previous turns movement. My vanquisher then promptly immobilizes it, forcing his death star to huff it on foot. Sadly Marbo was gunned down by the crusaders assault cannon

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake.

This is probably not too appropriate as these are supposed to be SUCCESS stories. Anyways with my old Inquisitorial IG army. My Marbo always killed something even if that something was him. He once dropped a squad of marines but the rhino of these marines ran him over.

Anyways once he threw his det pack and it scattered about as far as it could and wrecked a dreadnought, killed a librarian and exploded a rhino killing 7 out of 10 Space Marines!!!

I've sold so many armies. :(

Appeared behind a group of Horrors. Demo'd all but one back to the warp. Survived the return fire from the one survivor. Charged into CC and killed him. Used his consolidation move to avoid fire from a nearby immobilized Vindicator. Next turn, joined with a Callidus Assassin to kill a Tzeentch DP.

First time I'd ever used the little guy too. Needless to say, he'll be coming every time the Guard come out to play.

This isn't exactly game related, but a question for future reference... what would you consider a good model equivalent for a krieg force?

Just any model with a pistol and a big sword. Preferably a big pistol. Looking around on FW, I found this : http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Death-Korps-of-Krieg/DEATH-KORPS-OF-KRIEG-COMMAND-SQUAD.html

The Commander seems to be the best fit, although you can convert him some.

Good plan, but he doesn't have a pistol (unless it's holstered?). Oh well, I've seen plenty of Marbo's with only swords.

personally I always love it when marbo jumps in front of a landraider on turn w. Nothing like screwing up your opponents plans for assaults.

Decided to use Marbo and, because I tend to field an Inquisitor as an allied HQ choice, I thought it'd be fun to use a Callidus assassin as well, and see which one out of the two does better. I'm fighting Tau, so I figured it wouldn't be too difficult to rack up the kills with both people.

They both arrive on the second turn, which made the competition between them even easier.

Callidus uses a Neural Shredder on a squad of Crisis Suits that're threatening my tanks, then charges them. Proceeds to get locked up in close combat for a couple of turns, before finishing them off. She turns around and charges after one of the Commanders (a Shas'o), manages to inflict a grand total of zero wounds, and is promptly slapped down for her trouble.

Marbo turns up, throws his trusty satchel charge on a squad of Pathfinders, wiping them out. The next turn, he leaves the building he was hiding in, charges a squad of Fire Warriors and happily tears them apart. Then he goes for the second Shas'o Commander my friend was fielding, kills him in melee, and manages to inflict a wound on the first Commander before finally being taken out.

Final scores:
Callidus Assassin - 187 points killed.
Guardsman Marbo - 319 points killed.

I think I'll field Marbo more often!

I like the variation Marbo brings to the IG list, but there is a little irational voice in the back of my head that says its a little unsportsman like to field Marbo plus an Imperial Assassin.

Its just not cricket old man!

These stories have been very entertaining

So, based on your guys experiences, how many of you guys field him in competetive/tourney lists? or do you only use him in casual play?

I would say be wary of tourney use, as in KP missions, he is a massive liability.

Too many to count. Of course, there are a fair amount of times when things just go horribly, horribly wrong.

He's particularly good I find for screwing up people coming out of destroyed transports. Put him near enough to one that has already fired its smoke launcher. Vendetta or autocannon it a bit, he's going to get a decent amount of a squad.

Or yeah, whiff and blow himself up.

he did do particularly well once when he killed the majority of a truck squad with his demo charge, the ork nob and other remaining boy survived, charged him, he killed them and then charged and killed the mek boy clearing an objective.

Actually IMO for any force that isn't Catachans the solution is simple - any sufficiently imposing-looking Catachan model with the correct weapons will make it obvious that it's Marbo.

What, you want him with a helmet and shirt on cause it fit company regulations? YOU tell him to put his helmet on

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

I have used Marbo because I'm not IG, but he's been fielded against me a couple of times. His most spectacular entrance was moving in 1" away from me, and then my opponent forgetting that he was there, so that I got to insta-kill him the following turn.

Well, on a death world like kreig...

Besides, I hate the way Catachans look, and I love an army that looks uniform.

It's fine - balance has been restored, as the game I played this evening saw Guardsman Marbo pop up five inches away from a tank. Throw the demolition charge at the tank, it scatters five inches back on to his own head. Fails the cover save, instant death, game over.

Probably the reason I like him so much, really, he seems to either kill everything in his path or suffer an inglorious death at the hands of his own explosives!

Do KPs really matter to IG in tournaments? We bleed KP like crazy anyway, with all our transports and 2-point command squads. In kill point games, IG goes to table or not at all.

My Marbo is the Eversor assassin with the head he's holding replaced with a bunch of demo charges and grenades stuck together like a satchel. He has a sword, he has a needle pistol, and the skull mask and all that look cool alongside Krieg on the table.

He won a game for me without firing a shot. It was a Capture and Control mission. He didn't come in until turn 5. The Orks hadn't gotten near my objective but had their's neatly surrounded to avoid my multiple Manticore Blasts. Marbo managed to pop up inside the ring of Orks to contest the objective!
