Alright... haven't had as much time, but i have made some more progress. I have most of the weapons mounted or ready to mount leaving only the large cannon on top. I'm hoping I receive the Pod Racer engines early this week. I only have 5 more nights to finish this and I'm not sure if it is going to be totally complete by the Big game on Saturday.
This is what i have left to complete.
1. Finish Large Gun/Turbo Laser
2. Add Main Engines from the podracer if they do not arrive I will mount the x-wing engines on a temp basis.
3. Mount all weapons.
4. Mount back wing mount
5. Add more detail to middle and back section.
6. Prime & Paint
7. Will add crew at a later date.
Here are some more photos:

I just painted the primer on hawk last night in preparation for the Ultramarine blue, but today I just got my Podracer engines in the mail. I will try to get them all in place tomorrow. I still need to touch up the cockpit, but here is the latest photo of the project.

I finally gave it a name...... "The Guilliman"
I have reached the end and I'm going to post some photos, but first let me go over the whole project and give you an estimate of the total cost.
1. The pressboard frame - free (found in garbage)
2. The plasicard rods and sheets - left overs and some purchased. I spend around $35 on new stuff, but only used about half, so about $15 dollars on plasticard.
3. The missles & bolters - free (A close buddy of mine, Antonius on dakkadakka, gave me all the bits free) Thanks Tony!!!!!!
4. The Upper Cannon Mount - Free (Once again a gaming buddy gave me a couple tank models a year or so ago and yes the tank is a Panzer. I was going to build a battlewagon with them, but the Thunderhawk took priority. I still have enough extra to make an ork vehicle or two.
5. Cannon - Free (Your going to love this one.... I found it in a dumpster at a dairy. I think it was used to milk cows or something. The same day I found a couple other items that i could have used, but the black rubber tube was perfect.)
6. Engines - $1.75 winning bid on Ebay... the shipping was $8.50. The Engines I had in the earlier photos were from an 1970's x-wing model that I had found in a dumpster....so I could have made them work with a little touch up.
7. Primer & Paint - Approx: $15
9. Foam to transport - Free (Found in the same place I found the cannon. Bet you thought only milk came from dairies.)
Total Cost of Project -----> Approx: $40
If you had to purchase everything I think you could do it for under $75 if not cheaper. Except for maybe the model tanks... but I could of just used the pressboard or some plasticard just the same for the upper gun mount.
Let me know what you think. I will post photos next week of the 20,000 point Apocalypse battle it will fly in this Saturday. Automatically Appended Next Post: I forgot to add the magnets that I found on my fridge that i used to mount all the under wing weapons. I also used some small washers from a local hardware store, they cost 5 cents each... for a total of 40 cents. Making the total cost approx. $40.40. :-)

To end this progress report I thought I would post a few photos of this newly built Thunderhawk in action. I know I'm bordering on turning this into a battle report, but I'm not going to report on the battle, I'm just going to post the photos.
20,000 pts of Orks vs. 20,000 pts of (5000 pts Templars, 10,000 pts Ultramarines, & 5000 Imperial Fists.)
I brought 5000 pts of Ultramarines and another commander brought 5000 pts. Lots of blue.
Anyhow the Orks had 9 super heavys and the marines had basically two, one of which was my thunderhawk. With that many heavys on the ork side it was ugly, but the marines fought well.
Thank you to everyone who has followed this report and for those who gave me ideas.

First Off, congratulations on a T hawk that is very well done.
The base that you have pictured is a little... primitive. Was that a WIP, or something you cobbled together to make it to the appoc game?

How did the Thunderhawk do in-game?
Did it survive?
What did it kill?
Did it draw lots of fire?
Was it useful for it's points?

The Base is a WIP and I asked for ideas earlier..... I just tossed that together for the huge Apoc game.
The Hawk did great... it did draw a lot of fire when I dropped off all 30 troops to take the Imperial Outpost. I did do some damage with everyrthing but the Turbolaser... It was hit by a flying Grot Missle before I could use it. I dropped tons of bombs all over the orks and it mounted up some major kills. It only lost one structure point during the whole game.

That will teach me to actually READ the commentary as opposed to just drooling on the pretty pictures
How heavy is this brute? That will pretty much determine how small of a base you can get away with. I have seen some nice bases done using the imperial giant statue sprues (the Iwo Jima diorama that was posted earlier for instance), you could use that as a base and some brass rod for the stand proper..

I'm really debating on a wrecked enemy vehicle underneath on the base or some sort of marine diorama.
The weight isn't that bad, and i could knock an inch or two off the current base, but I plan on getting a better quality wood and using a router along the edge to fancy it up.
I think making the base a high quality diorama would really help finish off this project.
Keep the ideas coming.
I'm adding a few more photos of the Thunderhawk in action.

I think you can get a pre-routed base plate at Michaels Crafts (or Joanne’s Fabric + Crafts) for not too much. I think they are in the wood projects area (they are in the local one anyway). 1\2” pine in ovals or rounds (and I know what a pain in the neck it is to cut a perfect circle) with a Ogee or Round Over applied to the edge. You might also check out the Battle of McCrag (sp?) boxed set terrain, I remember a good sized piece with a wrecked Aquila Lander on it.
Another quick question for you, what tank kit did the brass etch behind the cockpit come from (I am assuming that it came from one of the tank kits you mentioned)?

I would get an expendable rod (like a radio antenna) with a ball joint at the top so you could adjust the model up and down altitude wise and also bank/pivot/angle it at the top via the ball joint...
If done right I think when fully collapsed it could be made to look landed, and extended up flying, etc.
That is what i plan to experiment with achieving.
As for the base itself: what about using the "Battlescape" GW terrain piece( minus the trees):
You could cut it to fit whatever size wooden base you want (for weight) and texture the edges, et. Painting it up to look like a wrecked Ultramarines rhino would add a nice cinematic element to the base as if the Thunderhawk was flying over to look for survivors, etc.?
Just some thoughts...

Ahhhh.. Triple post lol.
As to price, RedStarOne was charged me 140 (after shipping) for a T-Hawk that was never delivered (I only indicate that here as a price indicator). I have seen scratch build T hawks sell on ebay for about that price as well. The pricing point would really depend on you, and how much you felt your time is worth. If you have 10 hours into a project, then is your time worth 10 or 20 and hour?
Think about what price you would be willing to pay for one. As an example, at 100 it is a no brainer, 150 starting to feel the pressure, but at 200 it becomes a tougher decision.
If you do decide to build some for commission, just be aware that quite a few people will be wanting one, and wanting it YESTERDAY. Don’t take commissions for 10 at a time, that leads to burn out VERY quickly.
P.S. Thanks for providing the source for that brass photo etch.
