now that the cyborg daemon is finished I have been given some DIY orders. Now, I have no intention of this meaning no sculpting or painting for me so I slipped in a cheeky session yesterday and weathered the flak for not doing any DIY on my day off. Here is the result.... ohh yeah, these are going to be my Mammox Riders. Evil beasts of chaos from the cold north, blah, blah insert dark and foreboding descriptive text in here. Seriously, it will comprise of a standard bearer, with I hope an awesome banner, an ogre warlord and a great hornblower. Maybe a regular warrior to, we will see. There will be three variations of the Mammox creature itself. I am on holiday in Wales next week so I hope to spend some time sketching ideas and maybe even produce some proper concept art to upload to my new section in the blog, yes on the sketchbook page. I have been inspired by browsing through the Cadwallon book by Rackham and am totally blown away by the art of Paul Bonner which I find very much reminiscent of Brian Froud with a scandinavian edge. And even more awesome was when i discovered Gary Chalk did alot of the Pen and ink illustrations in the book to. He was one of my favourite artists from my Talisman/Lonewolf days.

Right, excuse the tangent there and here is the beginnings of the standard bearer. Ignore the legs of course, I am stripping and reworking them. I have gone for a more realistically proportioned figure, although i think he is not ugly enough. I am pleased with the dreads and am working on some kind of head gear, probably the top half of some creatures skull. I need to add a little primitive to them. I am thinking of giving my ogres powerful but stubby legs. Not sure how to distinguish them from big muscular humans just yet. I need to play around....

Comments welcome.

This is the test model, have another two nearly done, look pretty similiar. The colours used were catachan green which was then washed (selectively) many times with devlan mud to build up shadowed areas when that was done I thinned down some black, got right into the shadowed areas and finished them off. Then I did the highlights with some green artists acrylic ink stuff (not gw) and some system 3 artists acrylic, I think i used the ink on the metal areas to indicate there was paint there once. Metals were done with boltgun metal, washed with black, washed with devlan mud, bestial brown dabbed on, catchachan green washes and metals drybrushed back in at various stages with chainmail silver highlighting.

Forgot to post up some of my painting stuff. Here are my Nurgle chaos warriors. All I can say is that it looks a whole lot better than this photo shows which is a shame. But I will post up some squad shots when complete. The conversion work includes some nice shield - one from living flesh with slash wounds, one with a hideous tongue and face, another has an eye, hand on a chain, nurgle symbols etc and i may do a head conversion.

I have one more set of these guys to do which will probably be made into mounted knights, with a scratch build of some type of nurgle beast, or a worm rider etc - ideas appreciated.

Well it is interesting to have a go at painting again, just a shame I cant photograph it so people can see properly and judge it accordingly.

Hit me.

The ogre type dude, imo needs some more battle scars or somthing to generally roughen him up a bit. As it is he just looks like a big fat bloke who isnt wearing much, although the leg is a pretty cool feature.
Still can't get over the awesomeness of the cyborg...

Trilobite, glad you like the cyborg. The ogre figure isn't even 30% done yet though!! Still a long way to go with that one. I can tell you now though that I have no plans for scars on this guy. Think primitive and tribal and thats the direction I am going in with these ogre riders.

Latest WIP pics. I am starting on the banner now, then I will move back to the arms and hands before starting the legs. The arm holding the standard will have scale mail armour and a shoulder pad with a buckler shield on the forearm. The back will have a chain and some shrunken heads attached maybe a skull, war trophies from the powerful enemies this ogre has defeated in battle. Its good to see photos this close up as my eyes are old and cant see in such detail, it allows me to go back to it and touch the problem areas up. As usual comments and crits appreciated....

Definitely starting to look meaner. You did somthing to the eye, not sure what but with the longer fangs he looks pretty brutal. The ring on the back is a nice addition too.
Looking forward to how ou keep adding to this guy!

No, this will be cast, put into production and made available through my store and other stockists. I don't really paint my own sculpts much as I have a large pile of GW and rackham which is first in line to be painted!

Here's some progress on my Ork Warboss. I think the blue/yellow and rust/red earth colour work well. I got a nice chalky finish on the rust so it has some texture to it. Currently working on the tabard and hair on the bannerpole. Its coming together, still lots to do though....

Just to add another project, I found out a mortar thing with a couple of goblins, didn't know whether it was 40k or what so after looking on the website it is indeed a 40K Ork Lobba. After ripping the model to bits to rebuild decently I realised that GW also have an ork zappa and an ork cannon. The obvious thing to do here is to magnetize this little puppy and build my own zappa and cannon to go with it so whoever buys it has all three options in one model.

I kill myself.

If anyone is interested in all this Bad Moon stuff, it will be going on ebay when done, I haven't decided if I want to sell it as any army or piece it out, we will see.

Okay, the latest batch of photos. Just really showing off the skin, although I still have to work up the highlights on the gun arm.

There is much tidying up to do, on the blue and the lens and metal headgear bit is still to do, only has a basecoat at the moment. Also need to do the teeth and bone bits, the skull is done though. So colour formulas advice for good teeth would be most helpful to me please!!! The current stage is basically Dehneb Stone base with several thin coats of yellow over it. I will be thinly washing some brown at the base but would like to know what the best forumla for teeth is - links to pics or tutorials appreciated.

The bits for the base are about 60% done, and I will have to tone down the red on the gaming base and add some dusty highlighting to. These photos show the finished power claw as well.
