I don't feel like scrunging it up, though Dashofpepper posted it somewhere in the tactics forum. The thread: "un-beatable list".

@Gwar!

Best list out of the ones here so far.

Ok, now this is getting annoying. When I first started experimenting with Eldar, I was told:

NEVER take anything except Cannons on your Serpants, everything else is overpriced!

Then I was told:

Take Scatterlazors as they have an extra shot and extra 12" of range!

THEN I was told:

Take Missile Launchers!

Now I am being told:

Take Bright Lances.

What do I do! :( Is 2 BL and 2 Scatterlazors ok?

BLs are overpriced by a mile. EMLs, Scatter and Cannon are all there viable choices. I prefer Cannons on my FD serpents and Scatter/EML on my troop serpents with an underslung cannon.

Brightlances are a waste, you are correct.

Gwar: I think you are really going the wrong direction by going to ten-man DA squads. You hit the nail right on the head when you noticed how quickly they fall apart outside of their transports. Basically you are paying the minimum points to make your Wave Serpents into scoring units.

The rest of the game is spent popping heavy tanks with (mostly suiciding) fire dragons, and tank shocking crap into position for the prisms (once you pop the transports with them). Also remember to constantly zip around flat out as much as possible. Its a lulz army, just takes some practice.

Title it, "Never Dismount DA" as a reminder.

As you will against fellow Eldars. The slight increase of perils with RoWit should never be an issue especially not since only 1 in 4 of the Peril attacks causes a wound (on average)

Bright Lances are overpriced, but they certainly aren't a waste. They are the only way Eldar can deal with AV13-14 at range (other than a focused linked Prism I guess). For example stopping a Land Raider on the other side of the table (even immobilised is fine) is much more helpful than killing it when it is in your face with a bunch of TH/SS Terminators waiting patiently inside.

If you don't have any in your list then the only way you can kill Land Raiders, Leman Russes, Predators (from the front, don't want to have to rely on getting side shots) etc is to use Fire Dragons. While you are likely to kill the tank in question, baring some miracle the Fire Dragons are dead next turn and the Serpent often ends up in a bad position as well. This tends to be problematic if you run into an army with more than a couple of things that only the Fire Dragons can kill. Lists with more than two Land Raiders (all 3 Fire Dragon units getting where they need to in one piece is unlikely if your opponent has a brain) more than 3 Predators, more than 3 Leman Russ chassis etc will all cause you problems as they can focus on the Fire Dragons (as most people will obviously) and then laugh as you have to ram them to do damage.

Generally I take Bright Lances on my Avenger Serpents (3 at 1750, so adjust accordingly) and Scatters on my Fire Dragon Serpents. Bright Lances go on the scoring Serpents to increase their damage output, possibly drawing some fire away from the Fire Dragons and ensuring that I still have some AT power if the Fire Dragons die. Scatters on the Fire Dragon Serpents keeps them cheaper (more likely to die) but still useful. I also run underslung cannons everywhere and only my Fire Dragon Serpents get Spirit Stones. For 10 pts you can either have another weapon or ignore the occasional stunned result, I prefer more guns (backup if I lose the turret + more shooting if you can afford to only move 6"). I tend to avoid turret Shuriken Cannons unless I'm really pushed for points, the range and extra shot of the Scatter Laser is a good buy imo. EML I don't think I need with the list I run (but they are certainly usable), Scatters take care of everything other than AV12 more reliably and anything higher than that I shoot Bright Lances at anyway.

As far as the Avengers go it tends to be a matter of taste + depends on your local meta. Taking 5 man Avenger squads is fine, but as soon as you lose the tank they are dead as well and they are never going to be much help if you have to kill something in an emergency. Full 10 man squads with Bladestorm put out decent damage if used properly but are still squishy outside the transport. I use medium sized squads of 7-8 with no Exarch, gives them half a chance of surviving on foot and enough shots to finish off a weakened squad if they have to. If you can't decide running a couple of large Bladestorm squads and a couple of smaller DAVU units could work.

Also should probably note that the Bladestorming Avengers really benefit from having a Seer to help them out, Doom or Guide (or both ideally) combined with Bladestorm can get a silly number of wounds. I run one Seer (Eldrad at higher points levels, he is 1.5 Seers) and one Autarch. This combo gives psychic defense (very important nowadays) and boosts your damage output while still getting +1 to reserves so you can play the reserves game.

I think GW had them take it down. Corporate copywrite paranoia or something.

Meanwhile, I like the first list GWAR!, but I think those avenger squads look puny. It's pretty much taking the squad just so you can get the tank it comes with. Those guys won't accomplish jack or gak. Another note, regarding some of the offshoot lists offered up here, if you give it twin EML then give it a shuricannon too at the expense of spirit stones, if it's just for a redundant scoring unit sitting around until endgame, who cares if it can't move... as long as it can shoot!

It looks like you want the tanks to do all the work, and relegate your troops to end-game dropoff instead of helping with the work. That's fine and dandy, but consider the 10x avengers bladestorm exarch to roll with your dragons. That combo is nice because you are throwing an awful lot of dice from the blade, then throwing a fewer lot from the dragons at different kind of target. All badguys in area dead, therefore everybody can jump back in next turn and go somewhere else while the bladestormers reload.

Try taking (10x3(bs4) + 1 x 5(bs5) x S4 x AP4) against a squad of 'DOOM'ed IG, or a squad of well, anything really and keep it close to the dragon hits and you'll know how cool it is. Dice are our enemies, lots of dice are our friends.

Retroactively applied infallability is its own reward. I wish I knew this years ago.

What about Star Engines?
I usually run my WS with that and EML, though its expensive for a transport the Star Engines usually pay off when they rush to contest unclaimed objectives on turn 4/5

I wouldn't really bother with SL on the WS because EML seems so much more useful, not to mention the s4 ap4 pinning blast that does seem to come in handy.

Also might be worth looking into using Yriel, he's always managed to make his points back easily for me. Plus the +1 to reserves is nice.

DA are pretty crappy, but the occasional lucky hit with a Dire Sword is a nice surprise to something like a Carnifex or Trygon (I mostly use DA that have lost their transport as bait ).

Wow Gwar asking for advice :-)

Ive played eldar since rogue trader. not that its means alot :-)

shuriken cannons vs scatter laser. for the price and the speed that you are using shurikens are better. You dont need the range as your going to be moving 12" a turn anyway.

missle launchers are better than lances on a point per point value. and never overlook the str 4 ap 4 blast, pinning on the missles vs infantry. with your speed only raiders and monoliths will pose a problem of lance vs missle.

and with eldar it is always about target priority, and killing what is dangerous first.

personally i'm a guardian fan over dire avengers, for 40 points you get a move and fire heavy weapon that posses a threat and has to be dealt with instead of dealing with them as only a kill point/troop threat. and if you choose to dismount before hand and deploy in cover they can take a few shots and return fire.

5 avengers 60 points
10 guardians with missle 100.

heh the problem that you will find Gwar is that unlike most races there is no heavy weapon that sticks out above the rest so people all have their own opinions.

BL - Very pricey, good vs av 14 and good at picking off AP2s. Single shot vs vehicles can be hit and miss on value.

Starcannon - Most will agree these are a waste of points in a cover heavy world.

EML - Great for medium range armor, suffer from the single shot non-AP1 syndrome though. If you roll good you will be a one shot wonder with the dmg tables.

SL - Volume shots for trying to take out light armor vehicles. Offers the chance at lots of pens and glances, but vs AV11 your still looking at 5's and 6's to dmg then the non-ap1 syndrome. Vs infantry your looking at 4 s6 shots, but marines get their armor save negating the shots to a large portion.

SC - Barebones option for hauling already bullseye units. Cost effective if your looking for the same benefits as SL, but with 12" more range and an additional shot SL is usually the better choice if your actually going to be firing often.

In short, to a lesser degree most Eldar heavy weapons suck equally when it comes to point efficiency.

@Gwar: The people that are telling you to get more models in the troop don't understand how this is supposed to work.

"Playing Eldar" is not the same as "Playing Non-Jetseer Mech Eldar". This is a unique list that works when played a certain way, and having troops on the table is not what you want happening.

The plan is to have the FD use the Star Engines the turn they arrive to make sure they get to where they need to be, especially in a DoW game, while the BL will try and deal with transports Early, Even deploying on T1 if I happen to get the first turn.

I was considering taking 2 BL and 2 Scatter Lasers but I realize that it's all or nothing. Half and Half will be worse than nothing!

Good list. Last suggestion: Try to magnetize some of those wave serpent guns, as you will only really find out what works best in what combination from practice.

Alright, sorry to steer you in the wrong direction again... though I disagree with the weapons, I take brightlances on my troop serpents. You however, I feel should not, my list has a GREAT deal less ap then you, I have two minimum squads of dragons, and a plethora of scatter walkers. You however, should be able to deal with most armor without assistance from the bright lances, rhinos and raiders however, will be harder to destroy with bright lances then scatter lasers or shuriken cannons.

... So your plan with that latest list is to pop transports with BLs, kill big vehicles & MCs with 3 packs of FD, and kill EVERYTHING else with 3 fire prisms? If you opponent has half a brain he'll realize how much of your killing power is banked on those fire prisms.

No, BlueDagger.

Mech Eldar doesn't table opponents. It annoys the crap out of them all game long, pops targets of opportunity that present themselves due to your movement, and late game objective grabs.

In a straight W/L/D tournament, a list like this will take you to the top.

Ok, tested out my most recent list, and I have to say I am massively underwhelmed with the performance of the Bright Lances, even against Land Raiders.

I think I shall Drop them for EML, which leaves me 60 points free, which I suppose I could use to give Star Engines to the DA serpants for that last dash and grab, or perhaps go back to Scatterlazors.

Suggestions?

On a positive note, my Fire Dragons managed to kill a DC Dread and then kill ANOTHER that charged them, as they were in cover. Good Times!

Bright Lances:
=4 x (chance to hit) x (chance to pen) x (5 or 6 on table)
=4 x 8/9 x 1/3 x 1/3
=~0.4 Landraider deaths a turn

Of course that is a little higher from immobilizes basically doing the same thing (which makes the math way more complicated).

Just keep that reality in mind, I would generally ignore them unless it is a 5x spam army. I would keep them on - you still get to move 12" and make those attempts. Just getting that immobilized result is nice.

You just have so many options with this list. If you manage a weapon destroyed on their multi-melta, you can prevent the thing from moving all game with two wave serpents zipping 12" directly in and out from in front of it every turn.

Be annoying as possible, and if those terminators come out, laugh as they just lost them.
