Hi all,

been a bit busy for a while, fixing up house / yard etc.

anywho, i've basecoated the model white and started on the details. once that's done i'll blend the armour up from shadow grey.

Here's some really crude WIP to tide you over,

Hello all,

2 posts in as many days? i'm on a roll :-)

Here's some more work on the apothecary - bit more detail, and i've started the wash onthe armour (regal blue). was thinking about try to to blend up from regal blue to white now, as the grey mightn't 'pop' as much

I'll start the first round of highlights tomorrow, but for now i'm off to the gym!!

cheers,

kensei

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Hi all,

two posts in one day - i'm on fire!!!

Well, as the change in title states - I need to come up with a name for the army.

The army was originally black templars when they first came out, but with numerous SM updates, i like the idea of fielding devistators and sniper team scouts (plus those sword bretheren figures blow imho).

so i'm sticking to the theme of knight-ish group, and so i was thinking that they would still be an offshoot of the Imperial Fists, with strong preference to the seige warfare (i.e. storming the castle idea). The crosses on the models have already been painted red (true knights templar style), but calling them red templars just doesn't sound right.

perhaps knights of the red cross?

or sticking to the crusade-type naming system thanks to wikipedia these really stand out:

Red Templars???? - CHEESE
Knights Hospitaler - though i know i've seen another chapter already named this...
Children of Dorn
Guardians of Dorn
Knights of Order (though supposedly a DA chapter...)
Marines Exemplar - like the history behind them (only 1 company left all rest killied in the 13th crusade)

C&C welcome.

I like what youre doing. Youre painting is quite untidy and un-exact, but that only comes with practice and a real enjoyment of painting. I know people who cant paint because theyre hands shake too much, so consider yoursef lucky I love ure a BT fan boy jus like me. Check out my gallery for some tips. If you want help, just PM me. The Razorback looks fantastic! I once had an obsession with Black Templars myself, because although I've only been fully involved in the Hobby for a Month or Two, I've been lurking, watching and admiring for much, much longer. I think I might even return to them. Perhaps Santa Claus will bring me a Battleforce, 2 Black Templars Upgrade Kits, and a Command Squad. Who knows.

Hi all,

just checkin on the webstie!

@Agemman - thanks for the comments. i agree the hands do tend to shake a bit too much, prolly due to the old age :-D (29). Plus i've only just realised that i can buy non-GW brushes that are sooooooo much smaller (picked up a 10/0 brush :-))

@Popsicle - cheers mate! the razorback was an attempt at jewel painting and scroll work, and i'm pretty happy how it turned out. i need to figure out a better way to write with white though, cause it stands out way too much (perhaps grey instead)???

No problem! I think the White look fine, tbh. If you're not happy with it, I wouldn't dull it down to Grey myself, but rather try either a Sepia Wash - which shouldn't affect the Black too much, if at all, and won't be noticeable after some Matt Varnish or Purity Seal - or mix a Drop of Bleached Bone in with your White. I'm just guessing though, I haven't done either myself, but I think both are probably worth testing.

Edit: As for the name, I like Marines Exemplar. Has a certain Perfectionist, Purist feel to it. Suits the Black Templars nicely, IMO.

And... check my P&M Blog.

sweet - well, there's always the land raider in the army pictures, which was painted by a mate a while back. I thinki i'll try the bleached bone on that one, cause i was going to go for a more weathered look.

but then again, considering my pace atm - that could take a while... ;-) i gotta finish this care bear, and then tackle 2 scouts, and that objective marker *sigh* it never ends

epsiecially when there's an entire space wolves army sitting unopened.....

It'd be better if the Banner Bearer was the Care Bear, because then you could name him;

Hi all,

Here's todays efforts. I've tried to tidy up themodel a bit, and i've given it the final hightlight, started the base and nearly finished the chainsword. whilst waiting for the preverbial paint to dry, i re-did the helmet of an old seargent to practise my white.

Also, i finally found a medic's backpack online, so should arrive soon and i can finish the model :-).

in the meantime - it's basing and then onto my SM objective marker

Cheers,

Hi again,

you may remember me saying i was making an objective marker - well i've decided that's the next fig to be painted!

It's going to represent a Chaplain caught in a blast, making a final stand whilst missing and arm and a leg...

I've started the basecoats, but before i will proceed I want to know people's thoughts on painting blast damage. I was thinking to paint him up right, and then start the blast effects, such as:

- red raw flesh on the lhs of his face to represent the blast

- boltgun metal to show the paint peeling off

- bit of blood on the base

one thing that i haven't got my head around yet is where i've sawn off the limbs, it's flat metal and i'm not sure what to paint there (red spot in centre, see the pic)

C&C please

Hi all, quick update on the models!

I've finished the objective marker for my marines, a bit rough imho, but it gave me a chance to practise faces and highlighting on them.

Also started on the old metal scout with heavy bolter. does any1 have any good suggestions for painting blonde hair? i've been tryinh some brown + yellow and was thinking blending up to kommando khaki.

Cheers all

Hello all,

Quick update before i head off to work.

I used your advise shadowbrand and blended up from yellow, though i'm not quite happy yet - perhaps a shade or two of some browns. right now he looks like he's Mr. Peroxide

I've also had a crack as the skin and face. I read in one of the blogs somewhere yesterday that someone uses pins for the final details, so i though, what the hey!

Managed to get the best eyes I've ever done! simply amazing!

The skin doesn't seem to blend too well, so i'm prolly going to have to wash with somehting a little lighter than brown ink, but overall i'm please with the way it's progressing :-)

any more suggestions to help me save face? (pardon the pun)

Cheers

Hello all,

let me just say merry christmas and a happy new year. i'm sorry to say i've been absent from my blog due to work / life, but i have been checking in frequently to watch / view, and as alway, this community never fails to amaze me with the quality of P&M!!!!

Here's a little look into what i've recently been doing. I've been re-painting my SM terminator captain ever so slowly - did a fair bit of work during a recent holiday to the Gold Coast (AU)

i've started to get a friend more into the game, and he's loving the theme of the Necrons. I've got a lot of small (500 point) armies, cause i love to mix and match. Just after Xmas we had a 5x5 game between the two of us, where we played orc, necron, marines, chaos and nids, 500 points a piece. nids held the objective, the rest were trying to take it. at the end of it the necrons were standing proud victors, and it got us talking about having a 1k army, nids vs necrons (i love my nids). for a challenge, he suggested we proxy a monolith, but after some thought, i decided to make one. it's pretty basic, but with some more layers of cardboard and a slap of paint, i think it could be convincing.

so here's the first steps. i've started making a crystal from polystyrene and a hot knife, and it's not too bad imho, though i'll let you all be the judge of that.

nb; special thanks goes out to Dominos, for their excellent starting materials :-)

Thanks again,

Kensei

Hello dakka!

After 4 months, i'm back on shift work, which means it's easier for me to get time to paint :-)

Here's what i've been trying to work on - a grey knight terminator which will count as a terminator librarian (cause i love the force halberd).

Next up - i've finally decided on a scheme for my chaos dudes - see the test model below. i need to come up with a chapter icon though, but i can't decide, does anyone know of any good source material? i'm thinking they'll be undivided for now (despite the slannesh purple).

Cheers,

The grey knights look great. They make a regular marine player jealous. But that chaos fellow, I don't know if it's just the photo, but he looks like he's covered in glitter. Maybe it looks cool on the table top, but the sparkly look is not good up close.
