Not really. I can spend what? 250 for a land raider(which i was fielding anyway) and throw an extra 70 points into it so that it can hit on a 2+. 70 points is worth it imo. 2+ over 3+ gives a .833333333 chance over a .666666666 chance. That's well worth the extra 70 points. Expecially when its going to be used on sevral guns. Not just one.
I'm guessing you're taking the vanilla variant
First off, your guns are already twinlinked. Your chance of hitting is at .89% per shot anyway. Pumping that up to .97% sounds nice in theory, but I still don't see how its worth 70 points.
Especially on a tank with a transport capacity which should probably be moving every turn anyway, thus not firing all of its weapons.
Unless you have a strategy that doesn't consist of running whatever squad that's in the landraider up and dropping the units. In many games, people hold a squad in a landraider for later use in the game. I'm just sayin.

I thought Sgt.Cronus would be best used in a predator annihilator, give those single shot las cannons a little boost any way.

Imo, there is no best way to use him. It is all depending on what mission you get to play...

It really depends on the army. Some armies can't put out as much AP2 or S8+ than others while others can spam a lot of it. There's a ton of different ways to do it, but the best ways are:
Vindicator
Abaddon
C'tan

What kind of missions would you use him?

I understand not concentrating on just calgar, but I wanted to know ways to dispatch him before he does enough damage to my support squads for a good flanking chance.
I play black templars, i've tried plasma and lascannons, he survives long enough to assault and then its just a chain reaction of slaughter. He's usually fielded with his honor gaurd as well which can be troublesome to even my best close combat units.
Lightning Claw Terminators with a chaplain will make Calgar cry.

If you're talking to me, there isn't an exact mission I would use him. It would depend on what tactics I employ, how I field, and basically how many points I have left in comparison to what I want to field.
