Powerfists in squads are a must.

Particularly in this world of BA Dreadnoughts and Killa Kans! Don't get caught without them!

This is not true, while the PF is a better choice than the PW it is far from a must-. On average you will cause 0.12 destroyed result/turn vs an AV 12 WS4 dread. You are usually much better of just using combat tactics. When you have Pedro and Lysander in your army a PF is a better investment.

I hear this all the time about combat tactics, and it's insanity.

You fall back, the dread consolidates toward your squad, the squad can't rally using Atsknf. It's a pretty good way to get your Marines escorted off the board.

or the dread is within melta range and gets omg ftw wrecked...I seldom play 205pt games so I usually have something besides a Tac squad in my armies.

I'll just let that last post stand as a testament as to why I generally stay out of tactical discussion with youngsters on the internet. I will only say for the OP's benefit that you have to make your fall-back move before you shoot you won't be in melta range when it's time to fire that melta gun. Someone who knows the rules may have already realized this though.

OT-

Take the fists. Relying on Combat Tactics to get you out of bad assaults only works under optimal conditions, and not very well even then.

My point was that you will most likely have something that can take down a dread besides the Tac squad. Besides, a meltagun outside melta range is just as likely to get a wrecked result as a PF wielding sarge

OT, Termies without a transport is a no go. I prefer to have my Libby with Nullzone and Avenger. Not particuallry fond of GoI id rather give them a transport instead.
If you decide to go with sternguards in a pod you really need a third Pod as well so you can drop the Sternies and the Dread at the same time.

Whirlwinds are lackluster imo.

Power fists are a huge point sink for tactical squad never a good idea unless your just wasting points for the sake of it. Even with a fist you have a less than optimal chance to destroy the dreadnought. You do understand you can still shoot while falling back? Meltagun to the face maybe?

Very well... The point is that 2 posts before you popped in tedurur and I discussed the very thing that you mentioned, which is why I encouraged you to actually read the thread before you post in it to avoid looking uninformed.

Fail.

@OP

Take fists on the tactical marines. I have plently of experience with them and they're beautiful.

While they may not have a good chance of killing dreadnoughts (how the hell do you get that math tedurer? I have 5.55 repeating for every attack) they can ruin the day of transports, or enemy IC's.

Ignore General Chaos, I don't know what he is on about, and take power fists.

Dude you can do that or....... have a 500 point captain that has almsot every upgrade possible (a completel point waste but heck its fun havin the marine equivilent of a carnifex ) i use the chapter master for the base then added the adimentium mantle (think its was canned from 5th edition), relic blade, jump pack, terminator honors, artificer armoure, master crafted bolter, digital weapons, melta bombs, hellfire rounds, and the iron halo then stick him with a honor guard of 10 vanguard veterans

WAAAHG!!! until further notice

ok, let me explain the very basic math for you.
2 attacks=1 hit need a +5 to penetrate and another +5 to destroy =1/9 or 0.1111

...and yes I was agreeing with Turdurdur

Yes ignore me... I run a drop pod list with anywhere from 5 to 6 dreadnoughts at a time, I have zero clue what am talking about...
