As a guard player how do you feel about the imminent loss of Inquisitor Mystics?

Give the little bald guy some psychic defense tools (doesn't even have to be a hood) and I think he'd move from a silly to a competitive choice.

Give him a second psychic power that doesn't suck (lightning arc is okay, but the other ability just blows) and it'd be better.

Primaris Psykers are supposed to be able to use psychic powers to improve hte morale of their guardsmen, for example (from Dark Heresy: Ascension)...

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Correct me if I'm wrong but tau don't have any psychic defense do they? Maybe I've been in the wrong threads but I don't hear any cries of "Shas'o's need hoods its not fair" so why cant guard cope without?

with the powering UP of psychic powers in complete contradiction to 3rd edition where they were nerfed, all races need some kind of option for a psychic defense. tau do get screwed over by psychic powers (hey, it's an early 4th ed codex) and even the more recent guard 5th ed armies also do. i'm more worried about the loss of psychic defense as a by product of axing the allies rule more than deep strike prevention. i understand why they gave the primaris psyker a ld9 since marines in 5th get 10 but i still think they should have given him a hood as well. IG has more than enough template/blast spam to adequately deal with deep strikers.

I think you have been in the wrong threads. I've heard Tau players routinely complain about lack of psychic defense. They're not the only army either.

Tau have psychic defense.

Ah well, only been on here for 6ish months but I haven't seen or heard it and neither of the tau players at my local GW seem worried...

Why not give ethereals a hood then, people might actually take them

mainly because the tau fluff specifically states that the race lacks the psyker gene... although, gw has proven in the past that they're willing to poop on established fluff in order to sell more models so anything is possible.

I meant hood Equivalent and was being sarcastic anyway, I don't think any psychic defense is worth the downside of having an ethereal...

lol, hopefully if they're going through the trouble of redoing the codex, they'll change that too!

They could introduce psychic defense without breaking the fluff. Kroot shapers have been know to have some psychic ability or they could add Nicassar to 40k.

All depends on local meta. Also, the people I've seen and heard on the internets might be effected by THEIR local metagame. Tau have all but died out at our LGS, so I can't really say firsthand.

Well, they ARE (cue dramatic music)... necrons. You would think that they'd have figured out a good psychic defense at some point in the war for heaven.

Unfair advantage to the DS armies? Nuh uh. Taking free shots out of turn order was pretty harsh, I'll be a happy man if my nids get to pod and burrow about without getting hosed the instant they poke up out of the ground.

Its a bigger loss of the Psychic defense than the mystics. While deepstrike defense was nice there are measures to deal with deepstrikers. I mainly took the Mystics because of the overreliance of deepstrike many players have and I have always been about the disruption of my opponent's plans. The points left over mean I can purchase more guns or upgrade something for the IG.

There is always the WH Inquisitor to put a hood on.

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.
