@SwanCo - Which soldiers, do you know? I'm toying with the idea of adding different echelons to my brotherhood army, Templar, Teutonic and Hospitallier.

@Listrel - I'm intrigued by the prospect of using Thraka for reds, I will be waiting with abated breath.

It's based on the idea that if you take two colours that oppose each other it can give your shadows a lot more depth so if you wash red with green it should give a nice effect never tried it but I've seen examples of it and they look good so we shall see how it goes.

I think he's doing Templar. He is doing things a bit differently however do to the painstakingness of painting white (yes that is a word...sorta ) He's doing silver armor with white a tabard and red detail. I haven't actually been to his house to see them yet, but hopefully he'll bring them over when we game this weekend. If he gets around to posting on dakka again i can PM you with some of his pics if you like. But from what i've seen so far you seem to have a good grasp on what you want and are doing it well.

Something you may be interested in is that he has found some shoulder pads (not sure where from) that look very crusade-ish that he's putting on his elites (don't play marines so idk what they are called...vets or something like that) and he's getting shields for WHFB to use on them as well seeing as some have a cross and appear to meet the look relatively well...

wow that was a long post...sorry if it trailed off a bit

Oh yes I know all about the 'painstakingness' of painting white, lol. The mini I have in my gallery was a test mini for my templar army, and i think that took me an hour and a half. 3 coats of grey and four white plus washes and it still came out blotchy. Thats why I have such admiration for people like Listrel that are willing to put the time in to an all white army.

@Lennysmash: i just checked out your guy, and i must say he doesnt look too bad at all! much much much better then the Chaos Marine i attempted to paint in the Sons of Malice scheme (link to scheme)-> http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/5/53/Sonsofmalicemini.jpg

that attempted army crashed and burned...now i have a nice tzeentch-ish army of blue and green

Lol, my scheme fell by the way side too. I now paint a red and black chapter known as the Brotherhood of Absolution, admittedly they absolve people through holy bolter fire but hey its a tough universe.

On another point, for your friend really, the Templars only let knights wear the white mantle, sergeants and priest, the other two ranks of the Order wore black mantles. Not sure if this is helpful to your friend but it might add a lil personal touch to his force.

Looking good List, I'm giving the Thraka green a go on my tabards at the moment. Hope it comes out ok.

Are you going to do any magnetising btw? I think giving your Champion a swappable jetpack would be pretty awesome, lol.

Ok so I've essentially finished the champion now just need to attach his back pack but here he is

Really happy with the final result the base needs a little tidying up by the look of that picture though.

Next up I have the current mock up of the soon to be chapter master he has no name as yet I'm planning for him to be a counts as Lysander. His storm shield just doesn't fit with his arm positioning so as I don't want to cut his arm off and reposition it I'm planning to strap it to his back to do so I'll finally be getting out the green stuff to make some rope or chain which will be modelled to look like it's holding the shield in place. However untill I have done that here is what he's looking like so far (please excuse the blue tac) I think he's looking great so far.

He hasn't got a name yet I'm really bad at coming up with names so any suggestions are welcome it has to be a suitably "Knightly" name think Templar's/crusaders.

Ok that's the pictures for today but I have also been padding out my fluff a little. As I have already said the Angels Templar are a Dark Angels successor, they were formed by a group of brother marines that developed a belief that the chapter should focus more resources into the persecution of chaos and the eradication of it's taint with in humanity. As this group grew with in the Dark Angels drawing more and more support from their brother marines it's voice became to loud to simply ignore and a new chapter was founded. Taking their name from their parent chapter and an ancient brotherhood from humanities dark past the Angels Templar were born. To the Angels Templar iconography and symbolism are of great importance believing their cause to be pure and right they adopted a white uniform to represent this however so as to never forget the taint on their own bloodline a red cross was worked into their heraldry as a permanent reminder.

Second only to their persecution of the chaotic taint on humanity the Angels Templar hold marshal skill in higher regard then all else. To this end they employ the use of assault squads and close combat formations in high numbers. Having developed the reputation of close combat experts the Angels Templar are often called in to breach enemy lines following prolonged bombardment from imperial forces always willing to be first into the breach and to test their own skills in combat this is a role that the Angels Templar relish and are proud to for fill.

That's all I have for today as always C&C very very welcome next I'll be working more on the chapter master and developing a back story for him.

Cheers List

I could go on, but anything "latinate" would be appropriate.

Thanks for the suggestions and comments I'll keep the names in mind as for the templar cross I'm thinking of ways to work that into my chapter banner. No update today I'm afraid off to work now

Armand de Perigord
Gerard de Ridefort
Guillame de Beaujeu
Hugues de Pairaud
Peter de Severy
Jean de Villiers
Robert de Sable
Theobald Gaudin

The above names are all real life Templars with the exception of Jean de Villiers who is in fact a Hospitillier Grand Master. They have all held the rank of Grand commander or a more senior position within the order.

Finished model looks excellent List. Can't wait to see the Grand Master finished.

The true templar flag is a white and black field divided in half with a red templar cross at its centre. Why not change the black to DA green. That way you will provide a link between the DA chapter and the Angels Templar.

I haven't had a chance to get any work done so far this week till today I'll have some more stuff to show later today, thanks again for the suggestions.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As I said earlier very slow progress this week haven't had too much time to do any thing so here are a couple of pictures of the mocked up Apothecary. I was going for a stance that looked as though he had just been tending to a fallen brother and was looking up to face an on coming enemy. The only thing I'm not sure about is the head I wanted the hooded head to tie him in with the rest of the command squad/honour guard which i think it does but I'm just not sure I like it so let me know what you guys think.

I have some green stuff work currently curing on the chapter master model and some painting in progress which I should hopefully be able to show you tomorrow.

+1 on the pose. If you're going for a defensive pose though how about rotating the wrist in so the guard cover the body?

Just a thought, keep up the good work. Can't wait to see the GM.

Wow, these look really great List.

Also, for the photos, try using the "Auto Levels" and "Auto Contrast" features for a while, then you'll get the hang of how bright etc. you can make before they start looking silly. You might not belivie me, but most of my brightest photos were taken in almost complete darkness.

EDIT: Sorry guys, I'll check the date of the thread next time
