I'm pretty sure you don't get FNP against Mind War, it can't be used against anything which ignores their normal save (as in their armour save, not invulnerable save). Basically if you can't make a normal save against a wound you don't get FNP (pretty sure this is how it works, don't have my rulebook with me but I think the rule is you can't take it against Strength >= T*2, AP1 or 2 and anything which ignores saves like power weapons etc).

Depending on if my interpretation of the rule is right this also means your heavy flamers (Destructors) are great against them, you ignore their cover save (so boosting doesn't help), then you ignore their armour save and as such also ignore FNP leaving just the 5+ invulnerable.

However I'm pretty sure Orks can use the Mob Rule or whatever it is called (substitute their Ld with the Mob size, max 10) to make Mind War less effective. Either way its a good way to drop a Nob per turn and you can target specific Nobs to stop wound allocation silliness, you can always drop a couple of ID wounds into the squad first to drop the mob size low enough to give you an advantage.

Eldrad + Avatar is a good HQ setup for an Eldar army but are still nothing special when compared to many other armies HQs, certainly they are in a completely different category to full on Nob Bikers. Admittedly they probably work better in a Foot list rather than a mech list like Mafty fielded but not really going to make a major difference in this case.

This is correct

Basically if you can't make a normal save against a wound you don't get FNP

This is wrong

Not sure if he get's FNP vs mindwar, but I know he get's a coversave at least.

Eldrad + Avatar does not suck. Both are huge force multipliers, and an Avatar with fortune is almost unkillable. (and you have 3+/4++) Both are really good value for their pts too. In what other army do you get an MC that can survive 1500 pts of IG shooting for 160ish pts?

Eldrad + Avatar are also not as reliant on your opponents list for efficiency. If the nob bikers f.ex. run up against a capable guard player with PBS, they are in serious trouble.

It would appear that some of the rules were not correctly used in our game then, mainly due to me not knowing enough about nob bikers and the opponent not explaining them at all. I have since looked up the unit and fully know their stats and abilities.

Against my heavy flamer he was using both his 4+ cover and his 4+ FNP. My mistake for not catching the cover, but I didnt realise they wouldnt get FNP.

They do get FNP from the HF

They get get FNP from the flamer. FNP is only negated by attacks which never ever allow an armor save by any unit.

They do not get fnp against mindwar, as it never allows an armor save.

They cannot substitute mob leadership during mind war, as the power does not effect the mob.
