Since I'm not from the states, can somebody tell me what the feth the 'Alamo' is?
Anyways, I'd use the berlin wall piece as a large piece of terrain, but using it as a base is perfectly fine.

And you will find that Alamo was a character from the much loved series "Sesame Street" which is why Frazzled will horse whip you with some dude I have never heard of.

The Berlin Wall was a symbol of division and repression.
Very apt for a 40K base.

My uncle's father was a die hard Hitler supporter until the day he died. My uncle, who speaks German fluently (as does most of the family), despised that part of our heritage.

He has a giant piece of the wall he broke himself in his living room as a memorial to the end of a terrible time in history. The day the wall fell he flew back to snag it. For him it symbolizes almost a breaking of the chains... Germans got their true culture back when the wall fell and he considers it a very good thing.

For me it means none of that. I know the history, but wasn't there and don't know anyone who was. It's a symbol that's completely open to interpretation. I think it would be great if it looks good because only you'll know the history. And ultimately if when you died someone had it and didn't know the history behind it, wouldn't it just be a nice conversion with no backstory?

Blasphemer! The Alamo is sacred to all true Americans. You must be one of those godless commie pinkoes that build walls that people eventually use to base their minis, or worse someone who talks during a movie. Well, in Texas we have ways of dealing with scoundrels.

How about a more interesting, recent touchy topic. What if he used a piece of the World Trade Center?

Well, I am German and I say go for it if you think it being a proper use of your property. You will always find someone who will be offended regardless of what you do. Being the historian that I am by profession, I´d personally find it more interesting to preserve it in its current state but I would not find it particularly offensive. As others have pointed out, it is a reminder of a quite dark time in the history of my country, a sign of stark oppression and violence and thus quite fitting to the background of 40k indeed. There are plenty of pieces of the wall in museums worldwide so the loss of one piece is not especially problematic. Now if you´d want to make a banner out of the canvas of the Mona Lisa or something similar, I´d object quite violently. ^^

I say go for it...

I've got an Alpha Legion army who all have pieces of slate from Old Calton Cemetery in Edinburgh Scotland on the bases. They were from the area where the Abraham Lincoln Memorial stands... the only US Civil War memorial outside the US.

No reason why I used them really... I just liked the rocks...

I think that might be going a bit too far. As would using a piece of rock from Auschwitz.

I mean, you have to question why you are doing it in situation like that. To make some sort of point? Probably not the best way to do it.

But I think using a piece of the Berlin Wall is OK, if a bit pointless.

Should be fine. I mean, most Germans won't be offended, as it is not like they respect what the wall stood for. Pro-Commies might get offended, but that is okay, because Pro-Commies aren't even real people and their days are numbered.

I say, go for it.

If it were the last remaining piece of the wall I would demand that you donate it to a museum somewhere. Since it isn't, go ahead.

Honestly, why would they ever know? Are you just going to go up to them and say "Hey, its a piece of the berlin wall, YOU MAD?"

Just never tell them, and you won't ever have a problem, and if someone does have a problem, see my earlier post.

Personally I would not be offended, but would not be surprised if there is someone out there that would be. People get upset about the strangest things. Having said that the chances of you actually meeting someone that's going to get significantly annoyed with you for this must be small enough to be ignored. It is, more likely, to be a conversation piece. The problem is that the conversation may well center around why someone would want to do something so weird in the first place. If that's an effect you want to achieve then I say go for it. It might put them off their game!
