Thats good news about the star ship battles.

I am less than enthused about personnel format game however. Good for collecting nerds, but as an actual game its pretty dumb.

The Clix concept would be better served going back to horrorclix or some such since NECA has so many horror licenses. Or pretty much anything besides star trek. Kids nowadays dont care about star strek. Only old nerds.

Wouldn't be the first time someone has made a completely assanine press release over at Wizkids and before Necca there were some previews of a polystyrene construcible card game based on Trek. Now it appears to be the clix version so it sounds promising. Now hopefully they won't mess up the trek universe like they did with Mechwarrior by releasing the 'new' Enterprise, old Romulan BoP, and Borg cube in the first set.

Nah, they'll just 'advance' the Star Trek timeline to a point after a galactic cataclysm fragmented all existing states and everybody uses the same old starships, plus a few faction specific variants of course. And let's not forget all kinds of design alterations to the ships you know and love to better fit in with the declining technology feel.

Ships! Ships! Ships!

Course it will be a collectable game so I'll end up with 8 shuttles and a Planet Killer.

Aye, ships will be fun, oddly I'm not against an eventual foot version for the reasons said above, but yeah, fleet combat could be a bit of fun.

Especially at that pick and play level that most clix games are.

I will have a laugh seeing which nerds get offended when they compare the Picard and Kirk stats on the clik-base.

Nope. They all jumped-ship at some point when things went sour with Topps. Now they are Wells Expeditions:

There once was a company called WizKids®. Tabletop games were their niche and innovation was their specialty. Every idea, from rulebooks to player communities, was dusted with creativity. Now those minds have joined forces again to form a new company: Wells Expeditions™.

Wells Expeditions is dedicated to creating games for the casual and strategic game player. Our experienced team has a reputation for smart innovation focused on consumers and retailers. The close-knit team consists of Ray Wehrs, Jordan Weisman, Ethan Pasternack, Tina Wegner, Dawne Weisman, Tyler Bielman, Sarah Phelps, Mort Weisman, Shana Doerr, and Tiffany O’Brien. Though our talents have crossed over to many other companies, industries, and games, we believe core hobby games to be our greatest strength. Arcane Legions is only the beginning of great things to come from Wells Expeditions for the whole tabletop gaming community!

I won't to all OT about the travesty that is Arcane Legions.

Furthermore, his name Jean Luc and he has a British Accent? Does not compute.

Picard is French. In the future the French speak English. Also all starfleet officers are expected to speak English, so more likely he learned English from some one with a British accent.

Now that we know its a ship based game, I just hope there is some resemblance to scale. I really don't want to see a Defiant or Runabout thats the same size as the Enterprise.

I also hope that the game is a robust flexible system and that as a set doesn't become 5 variants of the classic Enterprise: NCC-1701, Starship Enterprise, THE Enterprise, Kirk's Enterprise, etc. There were different ships named Enterprise if they want all of those to be represented, thats fine. There are enough ships of the same classes of starships, that pumping out 4 or 5 identical models with different names can be done in a less idiotic way.

Which points to another fun thing they could do, have ships with blank name plates, denoting the ships class with generic stats and abilities, and allowing the player to write in their own name for their ship. A step further might be some mix and match snap together pieces to invent ship classes, but that goes beyond anything they've done and is less likely.

I expect the reasoning is that the recent successful film which supposedly reset the whole 'franchise' will have worked to bring kids into it.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Well, STO jumped to 15 years+ PAST the destruction of Romulus, and it's made of pure Awesomesauce.

Here's me hoping that it's essentially STO Clix.

My guess is that the game would focus mostly on the STNG, DS9, and STV period because of the volume of material in that time frame. The stuff in the past and future settings would likely be covered in the form of "time travel" expansions. Also there is more of an expanded universe that goes beyond the Enterprise in the STNG time frame, while the classic series time frame doesn't see as much outside of the Enterprise.

The problem with a star online based game is that it doesn't have as much of the iconic imagery people expect of a Star Trek game.

Does anyone know where to point me in the right direction for some regular miniatures for Star Trek?

I want nothing to do with Clicks games, anymore.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

I don't think anyone has the license for 28mm at the moment but there are a few good substitutes.

You mean 1 ship left in the whole quadrant commanded by rejects, cripples and incompetents? No thanks, make it a TNG Dominion War game and it will actually be successful!

I think they should focus on the main powers of the Alpha Quadrant first as it is at the start of STNG. Federation, Klingon, Romulan. I think only when they have that as a solid foundation should they think about some of the other factions. The Borg and Dominion would be decent enough starting points for expansions.

Who are we trying to kid on this one...We are going to play this, myself included.

Its Star Trek and a game, what more could you want.

Okay, first off: Heroclix wasn't a very good system. It was boring and bland. At least Star Wars Miniatures always added new (overpowered) rules.

Second, and I'm surprised Kid Kyoto didn't post this yet...

The real question is: will there be Shatner Krik fighting against Chris Pine Kirk?
