I think these souls count as already claimed by Tzeentch long ago, they aren't up for grabs

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.

No because once the armour is destroyed the spirit dies.

@Ranek: Do you have a source for that?

Everything I've read suggests that the spirit escapes into the warp, from Codex: Chaos Space Marines.

Yeah, if it were that easy to escape the Ruinous Powers, why wouldn't everyone join up the Warp-powered Legions?

About this point. I was re-reading the Liber Chaotica: Tzeentch and in the section 'The Immortal Servants of Change' (regrettably the book lacks page numbers, at least not in any language I know of) it says specifically in the Fortress of Nightmare that the children of madness (I.E. Tzeentch) spend all eternity "feasting upon the hopes of a million, million captured souls." and it goes on to say in the little red fine print that's everywhere in the book, "from the hopes and dreams of endless souls does Tzeentch draw His immortal power".

The Fortress of Nightmare also happens to be where Magnus the Red lives, fascinating place really. Constantly reshapes itself seemingly at random.

I thought Magnus lived in the Tower of the Sorcerors, which had nothing to do with the Fortress of Nightmare

Not after his ascension to Daemonhood!

Not that, of course, you are restricted by such petty things as only being allowed to be in one place at once in the Warp where everything and nothing is possible. Reality unwoven.

You mean at 1,000? And this sounds about right. I'd assume that on occasion the sons would steal Gene Seeds so that they have something to fall back on. I'm sure they have a huge cultist base also, which eliminates the need for a massive army.

Legion... not chapter...

Prior to the HH, there were Legions of several thousand marines each. After the HH, the remaining loyalists were broken into chapters (other than certain first foundings who ignored that ie space wolves).

Except for female Chosen. That would be unrealistic.

Well, theres the catch. Do the Thousand Sons maintain possesion of the souls of dead marines who died in honest service to the Emperor? If so, their numbers are significantly greater than ten thousand. Or do they only retain the souls of those who accepted Tzeentch or otherwise died in his service? If thats the case then there would only be about 1200 available souls that made it to the Planet of the Sorcerers.
I guess my question is, what happens to your (a human) soul when you die in the 40k setting? Does it get recycled into the warp? If you die as a loyal servant to the Imperium do you join the Emperor and serve at his side? Are you tortured by the Dark Powers for all eternity, say, if you meet your end in the belly of a Bloodthirster? Or do you just die, and thats the end of it (an Atheistic perspective)?
Regardless, the number of Rubric Marines is limited by the number of power armour suits on hand, which at this point might be running low.
Hell, does it even matter so long as Gee Dub keeps selling models?
