WoW took most of it's structure and interface from EverQuest (Though it's liberally taken any other thing from another MMO that it deems a good idea, even post-release), if you want to get technical. Anyway, the point I was trying to make was that after World of Warcraft's release, nearly every single MMO released since that point has tried to emulate World of Warcraft specifically, not the source of WoW's many inspirations, and existing MMOs have even changed their structure significantly to try to fit the same style of gameplay that WoW has (Namely Star Wars Galaxies).
You see, up until World of Warcraft came out, MMO developers were content to try new things and push the envelope in different directions. Now, MMOs are a stagnant pool of themeparked, class-based, talent-treed, loot-focused, endgame-centric trash that don't even come close to touching the caliber or quality that WoW has achieved in this area. A good 80% of them only differentiate themselves by their setting, and not any significant changes to gameplay structure from WoW. They might add small conveniences or novel combat mechanics, but nothing that really feels significantly different. Developers are clinging desperately to Blizzard's success, and they don't realize that they're not going to breathe life into anything nearly as successful as WoW without thinking of something genuinely new.
TOR is nothing more than World of Star Wars. If a simple palette swap and a change of theme is enough to honestly satisfy people, then that's good for them, but if this game really looks awesome to you, then it's really obvious that you never picked up SWG before they turned it into...well...a crappy version of TOR.

^ This is a perfect example of how WoW has somehow managed to singlehandedly kill all creativity within the realm of MMOs.
There is not much I could list to possibly improve World of Warcraft. The game's purpose is served perfectly. That is not the idea I am trying to convey. I simply wish that the developers of MMOs would branch out and explore the nearly limitless scope of the medium by offering entirely different experiences, instead of plagiarising an existing idea. The genre is in a very sad state, as it caters to a singular interest. I have plenty of ideas, but it would take entirely too long to name them all (unless you're genuinely interested to hear some of them; otherwise it seems kind of trivial).
Wouldn't you be pissed off if every single first-person shooter was a carbon copy of Halo, if every single fighting game played exactly like Tekken, if every real time strategy game was a clone of Command and Conquer, and every single action game might as well be God of War? If you contemplate that, you'll manage to see the 'good' that WoW has done for MMOs.

@Chrysaor686: So many games do that because it works, and if it works it sells. It's about business more than coming up with a new gimick, and it can still be a great game without these new gimicks. And at this point the hud only resembles WoW, for all we know its totally different in terms of gameplay.

I recommend you check out Fallen Earth - I hear its quite close in feeling to pre-CU Galaxies (never played SWG), although to be honest I found the combat quite clunky which eventually turned me off it (Its an FPS/3PS system with active abilities, that never quite *worked* for me)
Also, its been a while since I read up on TOR, but I believe they have made several substantial changes from WoW - though it could be a completely different game in every regards that was controlled by tickling mice under the chin, and some people would still go "lulz wow clonezorz!!111!eleven" as soon as they see the term MMO.
As to the trailer it was great imo - I really wish it were possible to make games that actually played anything remotely like that (although I guess some action games ala Bayonetta/DMC are getting sorta close-ish)
I also think its a good followup to the attack on the Academy in the trailer from last yer.
And for that sith being super overpowered, Im even more interested in what happened to all the other Sith/droids that seemed to be trouncing the republic before the useful Jedi showed up...

I have to say, despite my reservations and dislike of all MMO's, this one actually appeals to me. Having watched all the stuff from E3, it really seems like Bio-Ware are putting their all into this game.
And fully voiced characters and NPC's. That may not sound like a lot to some people, but for me that's a big deal, especially when it's combined with a game that can essentially be played single-player.

There are many reasons we don't see many MMO's make it to consoles. Controllers are an issue, as MMO's typically have a lot of buttons that need pushing. Licensing fees, networking, etc. All valid. The primary reason is the market. Most developers don't believe there is a market for MMO's on the consoles, especially on XBox Live where you already pay a fee to play games online. FFXI didn't do to well and it was the game everyone was watching to see what would happen. Obviously it didn't go over as well as everyone hoped and it turned potential MMO's for the consoles away.
I personally look forward to TOR and the hope that maybe Bioware can break the long standing isanity of MMORPG's. I'm sorry but I'm sick of "Go kill ## ______ and come back to me for a reward quests." That's just lazy game design. Bioware has always known how to make a fun game. I really hope that they create a sort of MMO KoTOR experience with those kinds of side quests and story line. If they can pull that off in an MMO and still maintain instances and raids that are fun, they will tear WoW apart.

Well eventually an MMO will come out that finally takes WoW down, thats just the way of things. WoW has served its part incredibly well over the time its been an MMO (isnt it like 10 years now or something?)
Look at Halo for an example. When Halo came out, it was the best FPS ever. And from then on you pretty much hated playing a FPS that was different. But now time has passed, and Halo has fallen and been replaced by better versions. Thats just the way things work.
Either way, I have to upgrade my PC something fierce to play either of the StarWars or 40K games. So thats really priority #1 right now lol. Good thing my father inlaw works super cheap for us, and is an incredible computer guy

I played Star Wars Galaxies and enjoyed the hell out of that game. That is, until 15 November 2005 when the New Game Enhancement hit.
The only MMO I want to play is a Star Wars one. But it can't suck and they can't nerf it every 15 minutes because the jedi aren't 100% better than everyone at everything and whine endlessly until it's remedied...

I tried it. I was thoroughly unimpressed. Generally, I'm not a stickler for production value, but when a game is produced to that low of a standard, I can't really handle it all that well. When your coding is so bad that it affects the way the game is supposed to play, it causes far too many problems for me to want to deal with. Honestly, it plays more like current SWG, which is an awful, awful thing.
All of the aspects of Star Wars Galaxies that I love are missing completely from Fallen Earth. The item creation system scratches the itch somewhat, but it ends there. You can't accomplish anything with the crafting system like you could in Galaxies, and the economy holds no real weight at all.
EVE is the closest replacement I've found, but it still leaves me feeling empty. The Universe is too vast. It never feels like you're actually interacting with anyone. Even if you have an affect on the game world in much the same way, it all feels so impersonal and mechanical that it's not even worthwhile to me. It's the only MMO where I've felt like I'm constantly alone.
