Where I grew up there was a moderately rough pub where the lorry drivers from the port used to drink. It had pool tables so we hung out there a lot, but some days you would come in and all the furniture would be smashed and some of the windows too, maybe. My sister got started on by some sort of ogre because my father is a Garda.
In Dublin I've been drinking in the Windjammer, which is an early house. It's pretty rough, but not to the scale that people are talking about here. Another place I was in in the countryside in wexford had a huge drug problem- literally lines of people doing lines off the bathroom sinks, practically everyone was on a pill or stimulant of some sort. I got the hell out of there fairly fast.
