Basically I went to the store with my dad to buy a huge figure case because I needed one. So then Matt (One of the staff) told us about this contest where we could design a new table and win the old ones. I came in first place.

My local GWS, at Square One, in Mississauga, Ontario, is pretty small. 3 boards, 6 painting stations, and lots of shelves. There is fortunately plenty of room to move around, and a lot of people that go there are nice. The staff are really nice. They actually have never goaded anyone (from what I've seen) into buying something. It's just overall very fun to go to.

Snap! Shame it's so inaccessible that way... I've said in other posts, I refuse to sit on a bus with my IG...
Maybe I'll take down my Marines when they're ready, but I'd hate to go with an unpainted army.

My GW is good. Service is great and the staff are nice but I never bought anything to date. Is it cheaper in-store or online?
Anyway, There is this guy who is nice nd stuff but he couldn't sell drugs to an addict, if you know what i mean. There are also these IRL trolls who harrass the customers.
The end result being people are interested and then walk in to buy nothing at all.

I live in toronto... 40+ minutes by transit gets boring, especially when I don't have a book to pass the time. My FLGS is closer, but they are more heavily into Warmachine and Magic, with infrequent GW play.
That long? But there's pretty much one at every end of town... It was much more convenient when they still had the Eaton Centre store though. I still haven't checked out the new downtown store, despite having friends literally right around the corner
I live a very short walk from High Park, and I take the ttc to the Lawrence one. Last time I went, I had to wait 8 minutes for a train to come at my station (I didn't even know there was a time that had 8 min intervals). Its not so bad, but I usually don't go if I sleep in too long because I would be spending 80 minutes of my day travelling. Thats why I need the book.
Also, to the other person talking about the Eaton Centre location, that one was moved to Lawrence, and was the one I was talking about. Theres room for 7 tables and a paint bar (though they stopped supplying stuff recently), and its a pretty good store.
Whenever i'm in Toronto I try to stop by the Younge & Lawrence store and i've found it has a great crew there. I even made it all the way out to Scarborough once to check out the store there (which is smaller than the one at Lawrence). Unfortunately Toronto is 2 hours from where I actually live and the nearest FLGS that carries 40k is in Barrie, bout an hour south of me!

There may be like one or two Games Workshop stores in the US, most of us go to independent gaming stores who happen to carry GW product (along with comic books, Magic cards, and a slew of other games) so I've never met a real GW employee. My local gaming store has like one guy who knows how to play 40k so he organizes all the events there.

GW Bedford: A nice size store with several good size gaming boards and one freindly member of staff. The painted models on display are not just the stores but regulars and are all done to a good to high standard.
GW Colchester: Its been a while since i visited but it is a realy small store, 2 boards and a painting station take up most of the space.
GW Ipswich: Wow what can i say. A huge store with the battle bunker spread over at least 3 floors with rooms for different games and all the terrain etc,

I go to the chicago BB occasionally, but I usually go to the Orland Park location, located in the mall.
The BB is fantastic, while the OP location has very friendly staff, but some of the people in there are complete donkey-caves.

Perhaps you should try going to Perry Sound if your an hour north of Barrie..... I just pulled out the store list in the back of a copy of White Dwarf, and there is a hobby shop that has GW stuff listed in Perry Sound on James Bay Junction Rd. Hope that helps.

My local is Games Workshop Derby. It's had a lot of problems of late. There was some drama with a previous manager and his accusations of other staff and regulars stealing, then we had a period of a different staff member every week, then one poor guy got stuck with the store despite having health issues and had to basically have it only open on the weekend. Veteran's Night has been cancelled and brought back about three times that I know of.
Currently, the store has two staff members, Steven and Jonathan. So the place is back to real opening hours again and Vet's night is back. Again. Both seem to be good guys although they've both had there own set of issues (there was a big thing over whether we were allowed to paint in store, for example).
I haven't had much of an issue, but do get the feeling that the newer guy, Jonathan, doesn't like me very much after I interrupted his sales pitch to a Tau player looking at the special characters (I strongly suggested avoiding them and going with two Crisis Suit Commanders instead...) as he asked me to leave the store when I had a migraine and didn't look too good, as it doesn't attract people in seeing a sick guy. In his defence I may have mis-heard him or misunderstood. It was a really bad migraine and I should have been heading home for my own sake...I was simply busy trying to remember which way home was.
The shop itself is small. Between the demo table, six paint stations and extra playing boards there isn't much room. You can get maybe three tables set up to play games. All 4 x 4. The community of guys (and occasionally girls!) is generally good, however, and the staff are pretty helpful. I've yet to have any try the big speil of pitchyness to me but, well, I'm a big dude. On the other hand niether has my wife when she's been in and she's tiny...

It only has one board now but its large another to have two small games going at once, and no paint station, people just paint and model on the gaming tables.
Since I got back into the hobby this year I go in about once a month on my lunch just to grab any paint I need. But it always seems to have a "sorry closed today come back tomorrow" notice, which is a pain in the ass when you need something. They don't carry much of the model range either so I gave up shopping for minis and just get them online.
The staff are very pushy but friendly enough with it, thats just the GW way I suppose, they are helpful if you have a question though.
Its always dead when I go in with just a member of staff painting at the table, but like I said I only go in lunchtime mid week. When I walk past on a Saturday it is over flowing with kids and I can't be bothered with that.

I went into GW Brisbane city on saturday and it had moved from a large shop up an escalator off the main mall in the city, with huge range on the walls and about 6 tables.
It is now at the back of an arcada, across a lane off the mall. It has 3 tables, 1 painting station and there was very, very little product on the walls.
Felt like one of the little 1 man stores in the UK.

my area seems to be a black hole for gaming. I have been playing for about 6 years now, and still find some rules that I dont understand. But the bad part is that there is not one GW store that I know of in my entire State. There are several local shops, but not one that is a pure GW store that I know of.
I have also never been in a GW store. Maybe one day i'll go to one. Ive also never played in a tourny, hope do that in the next year or so.

My GW store is an independant stockist, and is half of a larger store referred to as a 'pop culture company', meaning 'geek shop'. Manga, anime DVDs, comics, action figures, D&D, that kind of stuff.
The staff are all pretty cool guys. The manager has been working there for 17 years and it's a nice, relaxed place. It's down the road from my school, so I can head there during breaks, which I do most days.
Usually, it goes something like this:
Me: Hi.
Manager: Uhn.
Me: Seventeen years?
Manager: I know.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |
