Epistolary is incredibly expensive for what it does, when you consider that a Librarian typically will not have an Invulnerable save unless you invest even MORe points in TDA and a Storm Shield for him.
Of course, once you have upgraded to Epistolary, you can activate Null Zone, and then fire off either Avenger or Smite. Smite is AP2, so Terminators reroll those Invulnerables. However, Smite is also only S4, so good luck hitting, then wounding with more than one shot.

Epistolary isnt worth 50 pts, unless your army is built around gate and vortex ...
Also, why would you try to compare sm libby powers with blood angels? They share no psychic powers with each other except smite....
For sm null zone and avenger yea, for blood angels its unleash rage/blood lance for me. Jump pack is better than wings, cant be hooded etc, and blood lance is just funny.

Depending on the game, I use a lib with 5 termies(usually 3 LC and 2 TH(th to eat some of the inv saves)) and the lib has GoI and Machine Curse. The instant glancing hit on a tank is insane.

That was one libby who earned his pts back that game! Automatically Appended Next Post: I want to try fear of the darkness. Seems like it could work some magic against some targets. Can't remember if it causes a morale check or LD check. If a LD check then it works on fearless units!

I would defineately take quickening. Ifyou put him with a squad of terminators you get initiative 10 and fleet.

Its called sarcasm. Really what does it taste like?

Null zone has saved my bacon more times than I can count in an all-comers list. IMHO it's unquestionably the must-have power for tournament and competitive play. Against daemon armies, C'tan, storm shield termies and seer councils it totallly nerfs their ability to roll saves. Drop it on a zoanthrope (from outside shadow range) and light the thing up with bolters--saves your heavy weapons for the big bugs. Against some armies--space wolves, Tau--it doesn't do anything, but since I don't tool lists for specific games, it's always the first power I pick.
For my second power I expermented with avenger, but the problem was that I usually only got one shot off, and then whatever I didn't manage to kill would pwn my librarian.
Gate of Infinity has gotten me good results, though--mostly making late-game jumps with troop units onto objectives, or using the power to escape from certain death-by-assault. It's chancy though. Every once in awhile I do lose a unit to a bad scatter. It has really good synergy with sternguard and drop-pod based locator beacons, though.
The HtH powers (might and quickening) don't seem good to me, because they put your librarian into close combat, where he's pretty certain to die. The 5+ save from force dome doesn't seem worthwhile either. Some guys swear by vortex when using a terminator librarian (because you need relentless to shoot the heavy) but I've never tried that myself.

I've been playing with a Librarian with terminator armor and a storm shield accompanying a squad of shooty terminators (SB/PF x3, SB/PS x1, SB/PF/CML x1). I've been essentially using Null Zone every single turn I can. Combined with some good shooting units I managed to take out two T6 demon princes with only losing 5 marines. I've only used The Avenger once but in that one case it seemed to do its job really well; I think I killed something like 6 or 7 Fire Dragons in cover. Gate of Infinity might be useful so I can have more units contesting objectives since right now I only have 4 scoring units (two tac squads divided into a total of four 5-man combat squads), but I don't know if that's even really necessary.
Thanks for the input on Librarian powers. The suggestions combined with some test plays has made for some really cool strategic options in my games. I think I might try out Vortex next game instead of The Avenger just to see how it goes. Null Zone is definitely a must have though. I've also concluded that Epistolary isn't worth it, as the situations where I'll want to use more than one power a turn are incredibly few and far between.

Just remember with vortex, if you fail a psychic test (that means and 11 or 12) the template is place over the libby.
