Tied and gagged in the back of your car

My first game, Grey Knights vs Daemons. Being my first game, in a GWS, I pretty much took whatever anyone else (including the redshirts) said to be the proper interpretation.

So when my opponent, and the redshirts, said that the Plaguebearers got FNP against my Terminator's Nemesis Force Weapons, because they still got their Invulnerable save, I went along with that.

When my opponent, and the redshirts, said that his army got to take advantage of sustained assault (and being 5th edition, there's no such thing anymore), I went along with that.

And when my opponent, and the redshirts, said that any unit in his army could take advantage of sustained assault (even the units not mentioned in the codex), I went along with that.

Unsurprisingly, I lost. But looking back, I find it funny that a person who had never played a game before knew the rules better than a supposed vet and the entire staff at the store.

Took us months to realize that a running unit didn't move 6" but D6" - I kept wondering why everybody talked about transports speeding up their army.

First couple of games we treated "attacks" as the number of times a unit could shoot. If the unit had A2 and then an Assault 2 weapon, they got 4 volleys of shooting. Rapid-firing SM terminators seemed reaaaaal broken with their 8 shots apiece.

Rapid Fire =/= assault, which was mentioned.

Most of our trouble came from starting with a 3rd edition rule book to study from while we were painting our armies but then switched to 5th edition when we actually started playing. I think we maybe possibly have just cleared the air on all those mistakes after 6 months of playing.

I still feel like we're messing up wound allocation on complex units because I get screwed every time.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Observations on complex unit wound allocation: If you're feeling screwed, your opponent is probably doing it right.

Me and my group thought that frag grenades were defensive grenades for six months. Stupid grenade rules.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?
