Ok, Gandalf is finished - with blending and OSL techniques. I must say I'm more than a little proud of this fella.

For your consideration:

I did the robes with blending, and the OSL with drybrushing. The one thing I'm not too happy about is the face, which looks awful but is hidden by the hat most of the time.

Ok, that's not showing up. Maybe this will bump the next page into existence.

I have also seen a tau player atempt to use 4 empty bases as stealth suits.

Ok, the 2nd page still isn't accessable, even after a post. I'll try again.

Also, which member of the Fellowship should I paint next? Legolas, Boromir, Merry or Frodo?

Ok, despite new posts being made, the second page still hasn't turned up. Just to let you know - I will be doing Boromir next but only once this damn bug is dealt with.

Wow, that was quick. It fixed as soon as I posted, despite not doing so before. Maybe it's because I was posting from my iPod. Still, I think it's working now so Boromir will be forthcoming.

Just a quick post to let you all (if anyone is even still watching this) know that I haven't abandoned this, I'm just on holiday in sunny Scotland so I can't paint anything just now. I have however recently bought 2 new blue shades of paint so when I get home I'll be repainting my dire avengers. After the fellowship that is.

I won't be doing the Avengers until I have finished the Fellowship most probably.

Speaking of which, I've finished Boromir.

Not as good as Gandalf imo, but I managed to use pure highlighting with this guy rather than my usual drybrush technique. I think it came out alright. (apart from the horn, which is awful)

Might I suggest taking your pictures with white paper behind/under you models? Makes it much easier to see your work, regardless of how bad a camera someone might have. Because I can't really make out the model in the pictures above, so I can't critiscize(sp?) or suggest any ways to improve it. On the whole, it looks pretty good, but the only bad things I can think of (from those pictures anyway) is that in some places the paint is blotchy and the skin is very bright. Eh, maybe it's just the lighting for that second one. Keep up the work.. I sure as hell know that a model a week is more than I can say for myself..

Well, slightly less than one model a week, but here we go... and I bet you all though this blog was dead!

I decided to just buy a new set of Dire Avengers, and have been painting them using a mixture of P3 paints (really, really like these, massive props to privateer press).

I decided to do these chaps in bits, so I don't miss any bits.

So, I basecoated them black, did the armour-y segments in Cygnar blue base and highlighted the edges with Cygnar blue highlight. This looks pretty good. Then I decided to start work on the rear loincloth thing the DA's have. I originally decided to layer it up to pure white (Morrow white in this case) then stain the entire thing yellow ink to get a nice yellow colour (I find yellow really difficult to paint). So, I picked Hawk Turquoise as my base colour, watered it down and got to work, slowly mixing in more water and more white to bring it up to the colour I wanted. Then I realised this was too much work to just ink it yellow at the end, so I resolved to just highlight up to pure white from where I was.

31 layers later, I finished, and let me tell you, I cannot extoll the virtues of multiple thin layers enough, as it looks fething fantastic. (at least to me, not having done much layering before.) I think I got this just about spot on, so I'm really pleased with the end results.

For your consideration:

On top of finishing these guys, I've also been given a commission (well, more of a 'can you paint these dudes for me?' really, but I will be being paid) to do a friends GKT for him, which I will be doing to the best of my ability. Any advice on what I should charge?

No love for my old blog? I'll change the title, see if it makes any difference.

In other news, I've just finished painting Necron Abyss onto the Grey Knights, however, one of them is missing his Halberd (the one with the halberd pointing upwards that sticks on at the wrist). Any ideas on how to scratchbuild this bit?

Looking forward to the Knights! As for the halberd.. get the GKPA Weapon pack and just do some hand/weapon cutting.

Trouble with that is, the hands and weapons are actually too small for the Terminators. The guy who gave me the commission accidentally gave me a power armour Nemesis Force wep from one of his other unpainted, unassembled models so I've already considered that.

Any idea of how much I should charge for the squad?
