Personally I go for as close to WYSIWYG as possible. But if something isn't as shown I make a point my opponent knows that and can read my army list at the start of the match. That way they know what it does but don't abuse that to remake an army list. I don't mind if an opponent hasn't got 100% WYSIWYG force either. As long as they show they made the effort with their army and are happy to fully say what counts for what.

I don't really understand why people hate when you use plasma as melta or vice versa. Kits only come with so many options....

NO. You only get one shooting attack per turn. You can choose which weapon you want to use

You can definitely attack in CC with the bolt pistol you just used in your shooting phase. That's fine.

It's in the section called "weapons"

I wasnt talking about the same turn, was talking about the same game. Shoot bolter one turn and pistol in another turn.

I have looked all through to book, but i must have missed it, ill check again. Thanks for the help

This thread makes me laugh. In my games you generally hear things like "this kroxigor counts as a sentinel", "the goblins are all regular guardsmen (pretty good equivalent if you ask me)" and "This Crisis Battlesuit box is a devilfish" (they're actually almost identical in size, almost like GW planned it that way...).

My friend who was responsible for the first two quotes had to leave me during a doubles game once. The other two guys were my friends too, so I basically just turned to them and said "you're gonna have to help me here. I can't remember what half his stuff is." I ended up mopping the floor with them, Tau and IG are a very mean combination.

Like watching other people play video games (badly) while blathering about nothing in particular? Check out my Youtube channel: joemamaUSA!

This thread has been here before. Nearly everyone agreed that its ok to represent different weapons or models as long as it isnt too many. Pad and pen come in handy here.

Remember that mini's and terrain are representations of the mini or terrain. With so many customizations to vehicles and units it can cost a LOT of money to make sure you have every option available for an army. Eldar Warwalkers alone have a stack of weapons to swap over yet you need magnets to be WYSIWYG. If GW made mini weapons swappable then fine but they dont so we just have to put up with what we can.

If someone is pure WYSIWYG and your not. Dont play em.

That's the thing-- I don't have to tell you they all have frags and CCWs (not that the latter matters, but they have them).

If your models have equipment that's not modelled then it is generally considered polite to mention that to your opponent.

(mine all have grenades and CCWs modelled, btw)

This is extremely important - range and LoS for vehicle weapons are measured from the weapon. If you don't have a weapon there then that's going to have to be fudged.

Not in my games - you might hear "the rhino with assault squad marks actually has a devestator squad in it" or similar but not often.

It is not difficult to make them swappable. Nor is it difficult to decide on an equipment fit you feel is optimal and stick to it. When I see proxying I generally see it going hand in hand with list-tailoring.

I try to represent everything as close as I can, but then with Orks anything could be anything

I just make it clear what each weapon is and have it in writing for my opponent to reference.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

That's the wonderful thing about Orks.

/sigh.

Just do it. Seriously, it saves headaches for both players.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I try to make my stuff WYSIWYG just because I deal with a fair number of models and I don't want hassles. As to my opponent, it doesn't bother me either way so long as they're alright with me asking what a particular unit has (sometimes a few times if I can't remember the answer).

This is sometimes a matter of tournament requirement, some people in my local gaming sites are not strict on it. You should just declare the weapons beforehand and honestly use what is declared.

Blessed is the mind too small for doubts.

If the model MUST have something, its in its wargear, and it can never be removed, then you dont really need to model it (like frag grenades)

If your using blue tac as a combi melta...I think not.

When it comes to units without a model (eg conversion beamer, tyrannofex) I find my gaming group has problems.

I proxy some models like marbo, I just use a catachan with a blade and a plasma pistol thats been cut to shape a bit.

My friend has a terminator captain that he uses as a terminator sanguinary priest.

Generally if you cant tell what the model has, then wysiwig is being violated, but everyone knows tac marines have frags and krak. What they dont know is that tactical marine has a melta gun! so give him one

I dont mind if you proxy, as long as you tell me what it is and you stay consistent. Its a good a thing that I dont have to have standard stuff modeled onto units, because my flamer wielding marines shoot a lot of bolt pistols. (You can, as the flamer replaces the boltgun, not the boltpistol)
