Now here comes another thing:

Some kids in GW throw other people's stuff around too.Yesterday I was starting a game against my fellow ork friend. This kid at the painting table sat beside my eldar army, and started painting his tyranids carefully.I was too busy setting up the game board and I politely ask that kid to pass me my wave serpent, and what I saw was a FLYING WAVE SERPENT.I dodged in time and found my best painted wave serpent lying about 2 m away from its original spot, I almost threw my Arizona at the kid.I was like "wtf were you thinking dude?" and he went "Oh thats how I treat my models".Soon I called over the manager and told him what happened, he talked to the kid and the last thing I heard before the kid ran outta the store was a phrase of wear and a smash of models.

That kid had thrown paints around, broke crap load of models and pissed many people off, life would be much better without that brat in the store

How other folks treat their models? No big deal to me. How other people treat my models? Very big deal to me. It's just proper etiquette that must be shown to all (not just kids and noobs) "don't pick up other people's models without permission."

Now if Junior (or Senior for that matter) takes their brand new Blood Angels army with all the cool plastics and dumps them unceremoniously into their backpack, I would cringe but in the end it belongs to them. However, if they get their grubby mitts close to my models, that's when I have to call shenanigans and let them know it's not acceptable.

Wings@ This is completely different than your OP. Now you are talking about people treating others property like crap.

But at the same time, if there was a kid that had a bad reputation like you say he does, there is no way I am going to ask him to come close to my models.

There are way too many people in this hobby who treat their models like a piece of plastic(although they are), they do not care about the essence of this hobby, or clearly don't see it.They don't paint their models(normal for most of us but...), they throw them around, they do all sorts of tortures to them. They spend their parents' money and they are just so freaking spoiled as they have 10k pt of junk.I think most kids does that, and I think mostly because they like the game so much more than the actually hobby(although they have lists that can be classified as garbage, and don't play the right way)

The most unforgetable esperience I had was last week. When this kid in GW just finished a game and was packing up.He had his casualty pile high up the shelves(I don't know why) and he asked me to bring it to him.He was polite enough to make me move, and as a gamer/modeller/painter I was very careful with his stuff the whole way. Then when it got to his hands he JUST DUMPED THE WHOLE PILE INTO A BACKPACK.I was enraged, I don't know why but I was, and turned away from him and pledge I will either table him badly later on to teach him a lesson, or ignore this person.

Anyone has any similar experience?

Ok Really?!?!?!?!

1. It isn't really your business what someone does with their own stuff (if their parents bought it for them that doesn't change the point)

2. Do you really care what some random dude does with THEIR models? So what maybe that person just gets a kick out of seeing their dead models actually piled high. But still so what? Who cares?

3. You may want to really think about what got you mad about this because even though you are young going through life jealous of others for the situation they are in isn't good for you. If you actually had an emotional response to this other than rolling your eyes (which you did) I really think you may need to talk to someone. I don't mean that to put you down but it sounds like you got really upset over something relatively trivial and perhaps it would be best if you seriously talked to some people about it.

Pieces I actually game with: Gaming pieces. Little better than chess pieces. I put my chess pieces back in their case one at a time (and it is a felt lined case with little nooks).

Pieces that I don't game with (because I don't play that army and WON'T EVER play them): Display models. They stay on a shelf and look 'pretty'.

I've never done the pile of minis into a bag thing (my intro to wargaming was via historicals - and showing care with the stuff you took so much time on).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I certainly take care of not only my miniatures, but pretty much everything. I don't have a lot of cash or time to reinvest in replacing broken models or broken water heaters. I also have respect for other people's property. That being said, I don't get all hot and bothered if somebody else doesn't treat their own possesions with the same respect.

To the OP: Mind your own yard, and let others mind their own. No need to complicate your life worrying about what somebody else is doing with their models when you already have to think about taking care of your own. Also too many people get caught up in "the hobby" vs. the game. Many people who play 40lk are more interested in simply playing the game more than wanting to be a part of the hobby (painting, converting models, reading the novels, participating in tournaments). I was very much a game first person for many years before I ever wanted to paint a mini. I can certainly understand others feeling the same way.

Yea, when i got into the hobby my friend and his little brother went with me one time to the local hobby store and my friends younger brother bought a squad of fire warriors and asked me to assemble and paint them, which i did. Now he treats them like action figures that he can throw into a toy box when his is done. And most recently he went with me when i picked up the assault on black reach kit he cried until his parents bought him one the next day. Now he has a space marine captain, a dreadnought, a squad of terminators and tactical marines, (His brother plays orks so he took them) and he uses his marines as toys to be crushed by some giant toy that he got. And i feel llike his parents just wasted their money.

I treat my models with the upmost care but I don't give a fig about how other people treat their models.

However if after they lose they break a model in rage then I look upon them as being a poor sport.

I love the game, and attempt to attend as many tournaments as possible...

Yet I have unpainted miniatures (going to change that...) and carry my models in wave serpent boxes via dufflebag.

I still take good care of my models, even better care of other's models.

I honestly wouldn't care if you broke a model of mine, it's just a model, if it wasn't intentional, then quite frankly, I don't give a damn.

Over-reaction indeed.

When I was a kid, I knew to treat models with a ginger touch and lots of respect. My dad took me to gaming cons from when I was 6 years old or so, and I learned a lot about gaming etiquette that way. However, I'd have my friends over to game once in a while too. The paint would wear off my models a lot, as my friends were grabbing the figures by the paintjob and doing a lot of damage. This is why my first homebrew ruleset that we played was called "By The Base, Bitch", which was pretty edgy to my 11-12 year old self.

Unfortunately, I have a buddy who will literally throw his models into a box when they die. This is attributed to him getting a bit too mad over toy soldiers and not really knowing what kind of punishment his models can take.

I wouldn't go so far as to say we're not artists. Not all wargamers are artists, granted, but a big part of the hobby for a lot of people is artistic and creative, and I would say a lot of wargamers are artists, admittedly, so more so than others. I think a few minutes perusing through Dakka's gallery will turn up a lot of evidence for this (on both ends of the spectrum).

I dont go to the poitn of packing each one away into a foam spot.

But all my bases are magnetized and they just go into their trays and then into a cardboard box, it has worked great for keeping them safe.

Except that the other day i got cut off and had to slam my breaks, my poor little skaven went flying... I was pissed, luckily nothing was broken beyond repair.

I also dont have all my models painted. My centerpieces (HPA, Doomwheel, Bell, Furnace) are all painted but im not going to not play for 3 months while i paint 200 slaves...

Im sure a lot of the kids that just chunk their gak around didnt pay for it....

I have well over 1000 dollars of my hard earned money invested into warhammer minis, i try to take care of them...

Howard is spot on. I really could care less what other people do with their own miniatures, I would just be scared of them hurting mine!

I had an experience a few weeks back where I was introducing some guys to 40k and let one use my marines while the other used my roommate's orks. The guy playing my marines didn't really use any care with them. Picked up a whole squad in a pile in his hand, dropped guys, and just otherwise treated them like chess pieces. That wasn't okay with me given the time, effort and money I had put into the models. I haven't invited him to use my models again.

Instead I encouraged him to start his own army with which he could do as he pleases.

Ok now I haev a bit of rep about being cavalier with my figures for 40k and other games............however I am always extremely careful with oher peoples figures....

I love owning figuire, love making them up and converting them and extremely poor painter - having only done it for 20+ years !! So I know get people to paint them for me - I have money but llittle time to do it myself and a loath to spoil models by my own ineptitude. Once these are painted I am much more carfeful with them!

On the other hand - I do like being careless with my "badly painted " I did them" Orks and Trynaids as its fits with my take on the army and how I play them - I don't care - kill them if you like - do not worry - there are more!

That being said, I really should invest in a carry case

It happens to everyone but don't waste your time being jealous of people..... your never going to have everything you want let alone what everyone else has. Enjoy your miniatures the way you want and don't let how other people act in gaming or real life get you bent out of shape. Life is too short.
