For the amount of points you're paying, you're getting little firepower, and unless you go flat out (in which case you can't shoot or disembark troops) you're just as durable as a chimera, a transport that costs 40% of what a wave serpent costs. Wave serpents are not in any way "unbelievably" good. They're OK, but a mech Eldar army rarely has sufficient firepower to deal with the enemy army, and must rely on conserving kill points and late-game contesting of objectives. In a game where every mission has random game length, these tactics can win you games, but not as consistently as an army that can just try to kill the enemy, like all the modern codices can.
