C-prime, my advice to you is to get together with your friend, and buy each a battlebox of your choice, and one Rulebook. (The quickstart rules are included in the boxes, but leave way too much out of the game to use more than once or twice.) That is how I learned the game, in days of yore. My buddy and I each got a box, and were able to remember enough of the rules individually that we caught up pretty quickly.
