Bigger bases(either Cavalry or 60 mm round, we don't know) and suitably tall basing materials; you want maybe a Full inch under there feat to achieve enough height that you do not get accused of modelling for advantage.

have them all standing on Rocks and you should be good.

I have the 13th company rules book (not in front of me) and it stated that all of the SW of the company have the wulfen curse but at different times. When I play my 13th I have alot of wolf models because if you have wulfen they are going to be targeted first. If you make your wolf lord have the mark of the wulfen then you can have wulfen as troops instead of elites.

thanks kommissar, I think that's what i'll do, i've got some spare 60mm rounds i'll use and i'll put them on some scenery although it probably won't be an inch, but seeing as how i'll be only playing my mates i'm sure they'll be cool with it, but at least this way I can paint them up and have them useful in a game.

They're going to be hard-hitting veterans, who emphasize moving fast and hitting hard--then getting the hell out of dodge before the counterattack strikes.

actually.. hate to burst the bubble.. but according to the space wolf codex itself, Russ did NOT entire the EoT with the 13th, rather that happened sometime after the heresy was over with...

as for the OP, if you had some werewolf looking wulfen models, i would definitely be ok with them being fenrisian wolves to go alongside a commander...however the thunderwolf cavalry idea doesnt really work... i mean, how would a brother go into battle?? riding piggy back?

:-) piggy back! lol I can see your point there but I was more thinking of the power of their attacks and characteristics, that's why I was thinking thunderwolf, as well as the fact they could be used in a single squad. so you're saying they'd be better suited to just be wolf models with no real bonuses? this has turned into quite the in depth discussion :-) i'm sure we'll nut it out eventually though! that's what Dakka-ites are good at! please keep posting your thoughts on this

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

having them count as Thunderwolves could work.

Can you give TWC mark of the wulfen? if so do that.

otherwise run them as TWCs with duel wolfclaws

That's a good idea all you are doing is substituting models with wolf claws it would be a suitable swap

You can actually give MotF to one member of any TWC pack.

The Mark on one of the Thunderwolf models would be a good idea(almost as a Pack leader, or a member of the Pack who has fallen even deeper to the curse than the others).

Giving them Wolfclaws would not be conducive: the thunder wolf pack has roughly equivalent stats to the Wulfen of old; Cavalry movement/assault instead of fleet, already have rending, Str is the Same, Toughness is increased, but WS is decreased, +1 Attack, double the Wounds, and double the Points.

Also Wolfclaws; while making them ignore all armor, and allowing the reroll of either wounds or hits is nice; depending on the reading of the rules that may(or may not) remove the rending rule. Also they can only ever get 1 Wolfclaw, so you would be giving up a bonus attack for the wolfclaw abilities.

Thunderwolves as a unit are somewhere between a little wonkey, and broken. They have a special rule of: rending(Close combat only) that isn't defined(loose reading states that this means all their close combat attacks gain the rending CCW rule). If you read that rule to mean their CCWs all gain the rending rule than Special Close combat weapons also may gain that rule(The wargear thunderwolf mount says models with the mount and a special weapon do not gain the rending special ccw rule, but cavalry do not have a mount)

The most common way to play them is to assume they follow the same rules as the Wargear mount as far as their "rending" special rule goes(which is really a pick-and-choose on the effects of their special rule, but is the least advantageous way to actually apply said special rule).
