The Leman Russ Battle Tank.
Because when adding a vehicle to your list you also need to worry about cost. The LRBT has that covered-- with a simple addition of a lascannon, it can function as both medium anti-tank (due to S8 ordnance plus S9 lascannon) AND rather heavy anti-infantry (S8 AP3 large blast).
And it has good front and side armor, and better than average rear armor, all for a fairly cheap points cost.
Oh, and it can fire its weapons on the move.

LRBT has 10 rear armor.
Demolisher, Punisher, and Executioner are the three with 11 rear armor.
But you're right about everything else!

Ah, right, my bad. I hate how different variants have different rear armors...

Bit heavy on points though, I don't deny it's effectiveness. But Lascannon points, Pask points, it adds up to fairly expensive unit, plus you may as well give it extra armour otherwise it will be glanced into ineffectiveness. So thats 50 pts + 15pts LC + 15pts Extra Armour + 150points for Leman Russ = 230points...(WOW).
105pts + 105pts = 210 points = 2 x Predators with Twin-linked Lascannon!
Best Tank, Land Raider, the Ability to Split fire with the Machine spirit and the fact that each sponson is Twin Linked Lascannon means you can smash armoured forces to pieces.

The Vanquisher is 190, hence its unpopularity. So with pask it's 240, with lascannon and plasma sponsons 295. Ouch.
Personally I don't like spending more than 180 on a Leman Russ, usually a Demolisher with lascannon(180) or a standard Leman Russ with heavy bolter sponsons(170)

The Leman Russ Battle Tank to me, is the most universal tank in 40k, with weapons options capable of dealing with any foe on the table, and hell even in fluff.

LRBT, Demolisher and Executioner are all well worth a look and their good points have been discussed many times. Alternatively, if you want to destroy tanks, you could try a Manticore.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics. |

Maybe, but one shot per round? If you miss 1st turn the enemy will "Bring the rain" against your Manticore. For utility, LRBT (standard model, Battle Cannon, Lascannon and 2 xHB) is really the best.....For sheer brutality, it has to be the Land Raider (2 x TLC and TL HB).

Why does nobody like the standard Land Raider? I would think its pretty effective at killing tanks. Sure a predator is cheaper, but easier to kill and has no transport

then you have a tank that doesn't know what it wants to do. Sure it can carry troops and Is heavily armed, but it needs to be one or the other. The ability to transport makes you want to move fast with it, but the weapons say not to move at all.

The Manticore can make mince meat of tanks, took out two Leman Russ's (NOT squadroned) with one shot. The best all around is the LRMBT, The Battle Cannon can take on MEQ and light and medium vehicle with ease. The best anti-infantry is the Executioner, three plasma cannon shots? Yes please! The best Anti-Tank is tough as i have not used the Vanquisher, but if my Predator Annihilator is anything to go by, it might be the LR Annihilator. With high front armor, move-and-shoot capabilities and a dizzying array of weapons, the LR in any form is the King of the Battlefield for me

My best anti tank, tank is the demolisher, str 10 ord. Av 14-13-11. Packs a punch, and can take one too.
However i tend to stick with, infantry kills tanks, tanks kill infantry. And the manticores kill everthing...

The ability to transport makes you want to move fast with it, but the weapons say not to move at all. That is why it has Machine Spirit Rules, the ability to move fast and fire a weapon. Furthermore split fire and the ability to shrug off shaken, stunned. It is a super tank, can duke it out with other tanks, and still transport infantry oh and it's an assault barge too, allowing you to assault out of it! How many Main Battle Tanks are infantry assault vehicles! Best ANTI-TANK Tank on a normal tank Chassis - LAND RAIDER TERMINUS ULTRA. It's not a super heavy vehicle, but for a standard tank up-gunned. 300 points of Tank killing nastiness, Super-heavies beware.
