It is possible but unlikley it would cause trouble with other chapters such as the crusaders with the salamanders not liking on being in charge if a group let aloen a chapter.

Why? Because Worshipers of Chaos automatically have to carve an 8-pointed scar into their forehead and shout blasphemous curses to everyone around?
All kinds of people fall to Chaos, even high ranking Space Marines. Just ask Huron Blackheart, or the Chaptermasters of any other renegade chapters.

Sure, good one - and where's Huron these days?
Still leading the Astral Claws in the middle of the Imperium, right under everyone's noses...?
It is 'bad' because you've got a Chapter Master devoted to Nurgle, with an Honor Guard full of Zombies, currently leading a chapter, a chapter FULL of psykers, and... no one's figured it out yet?
Really?
And you know the Inquisition has GOT to be keeping a close eye on them as well.
So, yes, multilaser level bad.

So, yes, multilaser level bad.
1. Huron lead his Chapter "right under the Imperium's nose" until he decided to withhold tithes/ blow up an investigation fleet.
2. The Honour Guard wasn't full of zombies, there has been one possessed Apothecary and several traitors, but no zombies.
3. The full of psykers part is tricky, yes. They should have sensed a taint.
4. The Inquisition cleared the Ravens of all possible charges after the Kronos campaign. In addition the chapter seems to be fleet based which makes it difficult to
actually investigate them.
5. The chapter's fetish with secrecy might have furthered it's infiltration by the agents of Chaos.
Regarding Kyras, he didn't disapear on a Spacehulk, he returned to the chapter on one. After seemingly rescuing a lost squad which made him some kind of hero.
So, the only real issues we have is Kyras's return after a thousand years absence and the apparently incompetent librarians of the chapter.
The former is unusual but not known, Lysander did more or less the same.
How the Librarians could not notice any taint, first on Kyras and later on the turncoats, is indeed a plothole.
So no, until i see Thule riding a Rhino ( in his dreadnought chasis of course ) which can miracously change into a Landraider and / or Voltron
while clubbing Ahriman with a baby seal i reserve "multilaser bad" exclusively for Goto's works.

As the former head Librarian, he would also know most, if not all, of his chapter's psyker's tricks in detecting corruption and how to foil them. So it's not fluff-breakingly impossible for such a taint to fester unnoticed.

Ok, I kid. But the I echo what Monster said concerning Dreads. They are generally removed from leadership (even captaincy), as they tend to to spend long periods in isolation and become a bit eccentric. However, they are generally ancient and wise so they are revered in that respect, even to where Masters and Captains would come to them for advice.
In one of the Blood Angels novels, the chapter Master (I'm pretty sure) of one chapter is a dred.

While that might be so, the Blood Angels novels are really, really bad in terms of bending the established background to the point of breaking it.

True. I wasn't as pleased with them as, lets say the Soul Drinkers or Ultramarines series's. However, the Blood Angels have always been my favorite chapter of SM, so I dutifully read them. Black Tide wasn't that bad, but the others were, mediocre.

Which quote? The first one I was in the thread it was said and told the guy I quoted him. The second quote I stole from someone else's sig.
And about the fluff, I think before some of the weird stuff in the new codex (necrons and Ba teaming up, etc), the BA had the best fluff.
