You forgot about Chuck Norris.

If the Dragon wakes, the Space Emperor will summon Chuck Norris and Chuck Norris will roundhouse kick the Dragon so (x2) hard that it will fly through space and impact the Dyson Sphere. The Dragon and the Sphere will immediately begin to disintegrate. Meanwhile, Scotty (who is the Outsider, duh!) will finally be released from his self-imposed transporter statis prison (he's been chillin' in the sphere until just such a time you know, who do you think keeps diverting the 'nids away?) and use his amazing powers of super engineering time compression to build himself a Space Life Raft in 10 seconds flat (He told Jim it would take 5 minutes. Sucker!). Scotty, Chuck Norris, and the Space Emperor will sail away into the Space Sunset and tell naughy limericks over a couple pints.

At first I was glad to see this thread revived/survived, but then someone brought up Chuck Norris.... I must say, I am sorely dissapointed.
*shakes head in dismay*

Aaanyways, as for this whole discussion about the fluff itself, yay! I totally agree that though either the Dragon or the Outsider waking up WOULD be awesome and make for a great summer campaign.... it would most definetly screw up the entire WH40k universe, and if GW found a way to weasel it so it DIDN'T, it would be even worse. So, instead, I will *mock sadness* resign myself to playing my necrons as though they are under the command of the Dragon, and seeking to bring about his awakening. Or at least that's what I tell myself.....

Now it's Question time though...

If the C'tan's goal of subjugating the galaxy, which relies heavily on the domination of the Pariahs over all others and thusly either returning the Warp to it's 'natural' state of unformed chaos, or completely destroying it, either way.... wouldn't the Hive Mind be in what some scientists might call, 'being up to your armpits in ****'? If so, why is it AVOIDING the Outsider's dyson sphere (which, as an aside, I'm fairly sure is not a prison, but a protective barrier. The Outsider was driven mad by the 'souls' of his fellow C'tan he consumed, and I'm guessing he ran away, constructing the Dyson Sphere, and went to take a few thousand year nappy nap while the Enslaver Plague did it's work... which as ANOTHER aside... from the little blurb in the main rulebook, isn't gone yet, the Enslavers that is), when the C'tan inside is asleep and therefore likely vulnerable to attack?????

Is it because an entire Hive Fleet couldn't take on the army inside of that place? Or because the C'tan are anathema to the Hive Mind's forces? Might there be some reaction between the C'tan necrodermis and the synpase links up to the Hive Mind (that would suck)? *stares off into space*

Over there... no, wait, AARGH!

Yeah, I kinda had an impression it was anathema to the hive mind. As for the construction of the sphere, who knows? Who built it isn't quite so as important as who'll open it...

To be honest the only reson the void dragon won't wake up for a campain or anything is because the rules would be hell on the table, and as said would destroy the imperium from the inside, or would it? Even the C'tan need slaves and 'worship', as mentioned in the codex, and so may not end up destroying the imperium, instead subject them to servitude

My other theory is that GW are scared of moving the game into a new era (41K doesn't sound the same)

Something I've just discovered in the Necron Codex might be of interest to you all:
At the bottom of page 25 in a box titled 'the Outsider' there is a quote by a harlequin Shadowseer which besicly descibes the outsider and it's effect on a group of harlequins.

This is odd because the Outsider went into stasis before the harlequins came about (the fall happening millenia after the Ctan going to sleep) as such wouldn't this mean the outsider was awake, as it 'drifted above us' {quote} if so where did this happen, I can't see the Harlequins going into the Dyson sphere, which would mean the Outsider got out...
