My husband and I went to see it for our anniversary. It was so awesome!
I loved how the fight scenes ended with the bodies turning to coins... we use actual coins in our D&D campaign (as treasure and as "awesome-points") so it was very awesome *tosses an "awesome" coin at author*

I thought it was a really funny movie, lots of great lines and fun characters.
There's a pretty big problem with the romance at the core of the film, as we're basically watching a dill weed try to build a relationship with a grey blur of nothing. It is understandable that he is a dick, as him not being so much of a dick is basically the story, but her character is basically a girl who changes hair colour and that's it. Seriously, that's the only character trait I can think of. She is perhaps the most underwritten female lead in a romantic comedy I've ever seen. It's very odd when everything else about the movie is very good.
But really, this is a really fun and original movie. You know how people complain that Hollywood keeps making the same old crap? Well they didn't with this, they put a load of money into a really unique property and now film audiences are proving they should just stick to remaking the old crap. So please, give Hollywood a little more reason to make imaginative films... if nothing else you'll get to see a funny movie.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I think that Ramona's flatness was intended. It sort of indicates that fantasy, which the the entire movie is supposed to be, is not necessarily predicated on actual stimuli.
Scott wants to be with what he thinks Ramona is, but not necessarily the entirety of the person that is Ramona.

Interesting idea and I can see how that fits with a lot of the rest of the film, but do you think that's undercut by the ending? The end is still banking on a traditional rom-com ending as the couple head off together...
It's also probably a bad idea to have boring people in a movie, even if they suit a theme. Boring characters are boring, afterall.

It's hard to say. There's a case to be made that Scott never actually gets together with Ramona, but instead is dreaming of what it would feel like to do so. If that's the case, then it makes sense that he would be elated after what, outwardly, appears to be a rather trivial conquest.
I do agree that its not good to have boring characters in a movie, but that's sort of the sacrifice that gets made for the sake of art. Just look at the 'protagonist' in No Country for Old Men.

Great humour, bizarre references and a really eclectic soundtrack. Two thumbs up from me.

I read in an interview with either Cera or Schwartzman that stated that the movie is all told from Scott's perspective. We aren't seeing reality but just how he remembers it.

I agree there didnt seem to be any depth to Ramona, shes was just a vaguely standoffish "cool" girl, but it didnt really occur to me till after the movie ended.
It makes more sense thinking of it as being from Scotts point of view, though I didnt really pick that up from the movie.
I was surprised by how well done the fight scenes were to be honest, I was expecting some pretty dodgy stuff ala (Adam West)Batman fights.

In that same interview Schwartzman said one of the reasons he picked the role was because they were going to get to do fight training. He figured for the types of roles he normally gets he wasn't going to get to many chances to do that kind of stuff.
