I'm building my first WHFB army (High Elves), and I'm really torn with regard to theme. I'd really like to build a force representative of an elven fleet - bunches of Lothern Sea Guard backed up by bolt throwers, eagles, and Shadow Warriors. I think this might be limiting myself a bit much, though, so I'll probably have to build a more balanced list.

As a compromise, I've come up with some background that the army is led by a prince of a minor elven house. Through a series of disasters and many centuries of poor luck, he's the last of his line. He's courting the princess of a neighboring holding, but in order for her to marry him (and thus revitalize the doomed bloodline), she's sent him to recover some lost item (essentially a wild goose chase; she's not particularly interested). The prince marshals his remaining knights and men-at-arms and comes to an agreement with a captain of the Sea Guard for passage to the Old World to begin the search. I'm not really in love with this background but I'm a roleplayer at heart and even if I'm not narrating my battles I need to have some kind of background in my head or I really can't enjoy the army I'm playing. Hopefully I'll come up with something better before I start really getting into games.

I really prefer the idea of a pure elven fleet list, raiding the enemy coastlines and then disappearing, but there's a lot of problems with this when it comes to unit selection. You could say something like "Oh, well, the fleet is transporting this unit or that unit" but I feel like that starts to dilute the theme really quickly. I'm also trying to figure out a way to incorporate Nagarythe into my background because I think the story there is excellent.

I've also got a bunch of goblins sitting around that I'd like to one day do as "The Army of the Underking" - masses of night goblins supported by albino spider riders, (cave) trolls, and bat swarms (counts a snotlings) led by the self-styled Underking - a night goblin warboss riding a troll (counts as Skarsnik). Death to the surface-dwellers!

I plan on reinforcing my skaven with 3 IoB boxes (makes 5 units, YAY, wait...) and basing the army off of clan Rictus and using tretch craventail plus a warlord on warlitter with wizard hat.

Lotsa rats, a few storm vermin, two doomwheels, warplocks and/or plague priests plus giant rats and rat ogres.

Well, I decided to get into Fantasy. Warriors of Chaos, Marauder heavy with Warriors standing in for elites. I've got about a thousand points worth in Marauders and Warriors, along with 500 points of Knights, and my converted "Sorkerer". Planning on expanding by adding in a Sorc Lord, and I'm converting a Hellcannon with the Spawn+Dwarf Cannon kit. Now, to find a suitable base so I won't hear people complaining about "Modeling for advantage".

So far, absolutely ADORING Tzeentch magic. In my first game, with a Lvl 2 Lore of Tzeentch MoT Sorkerer, they always threw the dispel dice (I was part of a 3 v 3 megabattle, 1500 points) at pandemonium. While I wanted it to go off, it let me get Call to Glory going every turn, which led to some ridiculous units (2 Exalted, a Sorcerer, and Full Command on a 24 man band of Warriors? Delicious madness.)

I am going for skaven. Liked the army for a long time but now am using 8th edition as an exuse to start them. The only background I have figured out for them is that I want them to be centered on Clan Moulder. I want lots of giant rats, rat swarms, rat ogres and slave.

My local group is trying again to make a foray into Fantasy, which means the skaven I've had sitting around collecting dust might finally see some use. IoB gives me a nice way of expanding my forces and adding things like the Plague Mortar that didn't previously have models.

Using 2 boxes worth of skaven to bolster my already very strong skaven force. Want the new clanrats and rat ogres as mine are last edition.

I'm doing a High Elf army based on the Island of Blood, found a guy on the web willing to trade his High Elves for my Skaven.

My friend and I each ordered a box. I'm taking all of the High Elves, he's taking all of the Skaven.

I'm thinking I'm going to start building a Tomb King army slowly. With the new book coming out this fall, and the subsequent model release, I'll probably be able to pick up a lot of the older models on Ebay for a decent price.

Always wanted to play Skaven, and now that the new Armybook is out (which is AWESOME ) I might finally get to it. Obvious place to start: Island of Blood, since my girlfriend have thought about trying to start with the hobby, more for the painting though. She wants High Elves (but then again I wouldn't let her have my beloved rats) so now I just have to wait for the time when I finally can afford it. <,<

I won't bother.

Thinking of really dipping into either WoC or Empire. Maybe skaven. But yea I mentioned I'm a cheap guy so I might proxy half the army (except skaven! cant really do that!)
