In my (albeit fairly limited) experience it's not the stoners that are the problem in Amsterdam - it's the pushy knife-wielding Algerian coke dealers hanging out on EVERY. SINGLE. STREET-CORNER.

Can anyone explain to me how the Free Trade Union gets to tell the Dutch what laws they can and can't pass in their own country regarding Dutch citizen's safety?

Explain it, or explain the wisdom of it?
The former: Wikipedia is your friend.
The latter: No.

As I understand it the issue is the manner in which the Dutch law is being conceived. If the Dutch were to ban pot outright, the law would be fine, but restricting its sale to Dutch citizens negatively impacts free trade.
In any case, I have a hard time believing that pot itself is responsible for the crime. Most major tourist destinations have crime problems due to the sheer number of temporary residents.

Legalized prostitution and wooden shoes of course...
Pah. Legal prostitution is mere hours drive away adjacent in Nevada, no need to fly international for it. For the price of a round-trip ticket to Amsterdam, you can have one helluva "party" at the Mustang Ranch.

When I was last in Amsterdam, one of the lads I was with walked out of a brothel in disgust, saying that it was too 'tacky'.
What did he expect?

I hope, by "tacky", he meant the decor, not the floor...

No, he was talking about this big book of rules he had to read first. I guess he just likes to be romanced by hookers instead!

He shoulda been thankful that all the rules for getting sex were laid out for him, in advance, in black and white.
He's not ever gonna get that from a real, live girl...

She's still a real, live girl, so it's fair to believe that sex would always have hidden "strings" attached.
Just like every other real, live girl everywhere in the world...

This, with the exception of the origin of the pushers and the type of drug, is the major problem everywhere that has a loosened drug culture. The hippies in Nimbin aren't the problem, it's the pill-dealers from the city that occupy the main street.
