Technically they have two. The Empire FAQ now classifies the steam tank as a chariot too.

I Think he's talking about the steamtank, T10 10 wounds 1+ save chariot.
It doesn't function much like a chariot though. Normal chariots don't have cannon + flamethrower and usually can't tarpit an enemy unit for several turns. '
For the cost of a steamtank, you could get a squad of 10 knights which could maybe deny enemy rank bonus by flanking.
(Oh yeah, there's also the War Alter chariot too.)

the War Altar is more of a support unit(which it's better at doing now that it doesn't die to Str7+)
the Stank is a spearhead/tarpit unit.
they did make it T10, but now that you always wound on 6+ no matter what...

How about using Cold One Chariots in a Dark Elf army?
I was thinking prehaps getting two, and placing a lord in one? High leadership to help negate the Stupidity test, and Ring of Darkness to help vs shooting, and maybe a nasty magic weapon (lance prehaps?). I feel that chariots are best used in pairs, no more then that (unelss you've got a horde army). As it was mentioned earlier, a high initiative chariot like the DE's, add some fear in thanks to the mounts, would be quite punishing. Pop some shades or harpies behind the designated target for march blocking to stop your target from fleeing and its GG.
Then again my approach to DE has always been mobility over static firepower. Thats why im reluctant to take Reaper Bolt Throwers...even though they are quire impressive, I am unsure if having a static element to a DE army is really the wisest option.
Plus its good to see some chariot love - they really were the red-headed step child of 7th edition.

With impact hits and high initiative riders + cold one attacks dark elf chariots look good also. I could see you squeezing a decent hero on one and still afford your magic, battle standard bearer etc. Remember the chariot goes towards hero/lord allowance if you make it their mount ( must state this in the army list )

I'm loving the O&G boar chariots right now. While they used to be cannonball/great weapon fodder, with T5 and 4 wounds, they are pretty tough to kill for 80 points.

I see a pair of chariots worth it and even one containing a character for added punch. But an army made of as many of these as you can get? No thanks. Your still going to have problems against normal armies and tons of problems against gunline armies. Take a normal army for instance who has a huge front line of horde units and their own flankers behind. You charge the flank and get stuck in combat because of steadfast and then here comes your opponents flankers who destroy you in one CC phase. The problem is your D6+1 impact hits will kill about 4-5 guys on the charge, who cares when your unit is 50+ strong.

the thing with chariots.
they are more durable then before, but because combat res is now based solely on kills chariots can't break units as easily now.
also the advent of Hordes means that a chariot, even if it wins the combat, will likely be stuck in CC against a unit which has a ton of attacks coming at it after it's main advantage in CC(impact hits) is gone.
Hordes are going to stick around.
that said i think chariots are useful for covering the flanks, dual charging a unit alongside a friendly unitso it isn't bearing the full force of the enemy.
they are also good for breaking smaller units.

Too bad TK have the rules for their light chariots spelled out for them in their armybook, and armybook>BRB.

That's what happens when you make your chariots out of wicker, instead of 8x8 lumber and cast iron.

Yeah if TK chariots all did D6 impact hits, then units 4 wide of them would be pretty gross. Throwing the Razor standard on the unit wouldn't be so bad though - S4 at -2 AS? Not bad.
