Epic? Only if you're easily distracted by flashy special effects, don't mind a complete and utter lack of creativity and acting skill, and are okay with a rehashed story that doesn't make any efforts to break away from it's source material in any way, and yet gets marketed as the greatest thing that ever happened to cinema.

I'm gonna take the minority side and join up with rubiksnoob. The finale (the huge war between the Na'vi and Pandora's wildlife vs. the humans) was absolutely epic. I, for one, am planning to go see it again, and in 3D this time.

One of my issues with it is that there's literally nothing new in it. You could get the same experience playing AvP2, Unreal 2 or any of the Halo games...

I watched this movie in theaters then never really thought about it again.

I love that there are so many fanboys and nerd ragers out there for it.

I don't think a lot of people are raging over avatar itself, but rather the complete gutter-trash, half-cooked crap quality standard that every one of these new age 3D movies seem to be in favour of

Most things have already been said as far as what I think, In which case I hate Avatar and since that other horrible film was mentioned as well, I hate Twilight.
As some of already said, These are perfect examples of how if it makes money it doesn't matter if there is no plot,writing effort, and so on...as far as big box office movies that is..

It's pretty entertaining on LSD, but that's about the only accolade I can give it. Then again, just about everything is pretty entertaining on LSD, as long as it generally doesn't require much complex thought to process it (See what I did there?).

This, however, is way too far. The media's already been forcing it down everyone's throats as if it was one of the greatest movies ever made, when the only thing genuinely good about it was the tech used to create it. I can understand re-releases when there's a sequel or some sort of follow-up, but other than that, anyone who genuinely thinks that's a good idea can feth off.

I concider my self a lover of most things sci-fi and what not but Avatar was more like Dances with Wolves than Pocahontas (ie just as long where nothing really happens then its over in a blink of an eye).

Avatar (or Dances with Smurfs), well...it left me just shruging saying "Meh" when it was finished.

Now don't get me wrong it was a very pretty flim but that was all it was, a cash orgy for those that rate grafics above story (the abomination that is "Nue" Star Trek also falls into this naff box).

Plus if I had just been kicked of that planet I would have nuked it from orbit, or burnt the atmosphier off with mass carpet bombing with said nukes.

I know dam well I would. Personaly I would have done it at the begining of the flim as soon as the transport ship had atained parking orbit, it would have over in like 2 min

I like Sci-Fi, but Avatar was just boring. From the moment I saw the first commercial and the tagline was "THE MOST EXPENSIVE MOVIE EVER MAAAAAAAAADE!" I just knew there was something wrong.
