only way to stop them iirc is to generate enough LIGHT (cliche!)
but yes this is not army material. they are more like space hulk encounters

How about none? Work on updating the codexes we already have that are coming up on ten years old.
Failing that if a new book had to be introduced how about we get more non-imperium stuff out there? I don't care how much of a special snowflake you think your pet project SPESS MURHEENS army is, there's already so friggin many of them that you can paint it your color scheme and use the rules from an existing codex to make it play 'close enough' on the battlefield. Get something new out there.

I like the Umbra:
but to be honest: I dont want an army made of black marbles, perhaps even all the same size.
But I think many interesting choices were forgotten:
Non-Imperial, Non-Chaos, Non-Tau Humans (like the Diasporex)
Jokaero
Slaan
Ensalvers (for me one of the most intersting choices for a new codex)
A Federation of Xenos (like the Uluméatic League)
Robots (real robots not Soul hunters like the Necrons, more like the Overseers)
My list would be:
Adeptus Mechanicus
Ordo Xenos
Lost and Damned
Hrud
Enslavers

Mate, tough decision... I'd go Ordo Xenos/Renegade Human tie, the Adeptus Mechanicus. That is only if every single codex was updated, a new rulebook had come out, and every single codex had been updated again. Hello, 10 years time 
But seriously, I think that a new Edition should wait until every single Codex/Army Book is updated.

Ad-Mech would be awesome, they'd make good allies for my necrons
I would pick Ordos Xenos next but I'm hoping that all 3 Ordos get packed into 1 codex ( GK and SOB being removed from this dex and having one of their own each)

I think it could be cool if GW made something like a 'Master Codex: Space Marines'
'Master Codex: Imperium'
'Master Codex: Chaos'
'Master Codex: Xenos'
where each consists of the books suitable for each, and then including a variation of allies/ minor armies that could be incorporated into an existing setup (like Tau incorporating the Hrud as an ally races)
Could work for GW, as theyd be able to bring out another set of books to buy with little effort, work for players as it condenses the source material, and can bring in variations or neat one-off things for armies.
