Nice headswap on the DP, really dig the double raptor-y cold one heads The plastic DP kit is pretty beast but I agree completely that it's begging for a headswap to really seal the deal.

On the ogres, nice combo work of guts & bulls, and giant weapons are always a good choice, whether they're great or not Also, that is a lot of river trolls!

Very cool man. Can I get some more shots of those Coldone/Blork conversions? I have a mess of cold ones sitting around and I was thinking of doing something similar, but haven't seen the completed model yet.

Ditto Salvage on the DP head. Two heads make it tight! (Or something)

Thanks, guys this gives me motivation to finish and get to painting!

@Salvage- My thoughts exactly! Doesn't hurt to have really, really big hand weapons on them as long as they're not being weilded with two hands . Will just make sure to point out to my opponent how they're equipped before games (ditto for the shaggoth where it's not super clear). Glad you like the head swap... figured if the keeper of secrets can do it, so can the DP!

@Wehrkind- I'm going to try to assemble the final trolls tonight and will get some better pics then (these were just with my phone camera). I was hoping to wait until after priming to cover up my glue which I used to fill some gaps, especially on the drogres and in the gap between the DP heads, but that probably will have to wait for the weekend when I can do it in the middle of the day for warmth!

Very nice conversions and stuff!

Cant help but feel that the DP could do with the scales being continued a bit more rather than abruptly stopping.

Assembly of 3K's worth of models complete! Here's some more pics

Trolls in horde formation followed by Throgg with super-vomit (another idea borrowed from Buttler's blog!). I used the ogre tyrant gut plate on him, and the DP's spare 40k sword with the power supply cut off.

Army shot!

And a pic of a few things people asked about above. Vitruvian, you're right on point about the scales, but I don't think I have the ability to do that (hopefully painting can make the transition smooth). Also added a plate to the bellies of the DPs after all (just cut out of the shields to make it smaller).

Will prime it all grey this weekend, then put on a thin black wash to get the detail to show up... and then probably take a break for Thanksgiving week before beginning painting!

It's not that much, is it?

Retail is about $600, and I was able to do thing like pick up the Giant at an auction and convert it (it was a Dogs of War giant) and trade for the Shaggoth. The trolls were kind of expensive, but they're worth it . The dragon ogres are a particularly good on the points-to-money ratio since they're converted (and I was able to trade for the cold one bodies from Jin, who got them from Alpharius I believe ).

I guess I'm used to treekin which are I think over $20 apiece, so this army seems like a pretty good deal . I do tend to try to do weird armies and not the battalion boxes, which does make it a bit more... but I'd rather spend $100-$200 extra on my army and get something I like and really want to play! Rather than burn out on one I don't like rather quickly (which has happened in the past).

Probably a longer comment than yours warranted but hopefully people don't look down at this and see $$$, especially with the dragon ogres in there! They're 600 points for 8 with how I'm equipping them, for like $50...

Lookin' good. They'll probably put some hurt on my Elves in January. Seems like those Dragon Ogre conversions came out nicely.

I wouldn't mind a close-up of your Throgg model, though.

Yes, thanks again for the bits for the drogres . Will try to get a better picture of throgg (and not use flash). Phone camera is better than I expected! But I still need to find my other for once there's some paint on these monsters...

Those Drogers do look really nice. Perhaps a bit front heavy, but perhaps mounting them on a base like they are standing on slightly inclined rocks would do the trick.
Compiling ideas for when I copy them, you see

Its lookin good! I can't wait to see some paint. I need to start working on my own army again but Ive been very distracted with Fable 3 as of late ahah. I look forward to seeing more progress on this!
I've got a 2500 tourny coming up soon with my army, so Ill let you know how that goes since we both seem so interested in each others games thus far

WOW. Nice army RiTides. I really like the dragon-ogres conversion and the "dragon prince". Well done. The theme is great, I've always been a fan of the monster themes. Maybe I can have another monster-themed army besides my DE. I will keep a close eye on the progress and any battle reps. Good luck.

Sorry to go slightly OT, but the army is inspiring. I might be able to get some beastmen for real cheap and was wondering how bestigor bodies would look instead of black orcs for the dragon ogres. I could count the minos as ogres. Hmmmm.... Nope not going to do it.

@ Wehrkind- Making the drogres more vertical would be a great idea. You could also do it by cutting the black orc body at a steeper angle... I did this by mistake on one and it looks the best!

@ Buttler- I would be very interested in hearing how your 2.5K tourney goes! I just discovered a way to deal with the lore of life slann (from boss_salvage's battle report and red_zeke's replies)- daemon prince with third eye of tzeentch steals Dwellers Below from the slann, stays over 24" away from him (to avoid Becalming Cogitation) but within 24" of the unit of temple guard, casts Dwellers (hopefully with IF) and has a 50/50 shot of killing the slann with his own spell

@ boogeyman- Wow, bestigors on cold ones could work great, I think! They'd look just like centaurs, probably (except with scales on the lower half)... and then minotaurs for ogres would make for a very consistent theme. Sounds like a tempting project if you didn't have a few others to work on

Actually I was thinking about running a Daemon Prince for the tourny but decided against it cause lets face it, Kholek is just too much fun not to run! That and I havent obtained my FW Khorne Daemon Prince yet so theres always that >.<
I have a bad feeling that I will auto-lose one of the games since last time this club ran a tourny they involved the banner scenario but we shall see! In anycase I guess Ill stop discussing "army list" stuff since this is a P&M blog!

Hopefully we can both get some painting done soon though as Ive actually managed to start my Throgg and a few Trolls.

Here's some more troll pics... but from a different manufacturer

15 Points of Trollbloods for an escalation league (going to 25 and then 35):

My attempt at a single pin (despite there being 3 holes...)

My fingers after the 4-hour endeavor!

I also will get up some pictures of the WoC troll army, it's been primed with a black wash for some time now, and I am about to do my first test figure using a wash method. It would probably have been better for that method if I had primed white, but I will see how the test figure comes out before deciding whether to go with it for the army or not.

Here's an easy conversion I'm doing to my Mauler to make it a Bomber (barrels aren't glued yet)

Will be assembling the Mauler Extreme and Earthborn Dire Troll on Wednesday, so that I'll have 2 options to use for 25 point games in the second week of our escalation league on Thursday:

eDoomy (-6)
Mulg - 12
Mauler - 9
Bomber or Earthborn - 10
Total = 25

I lost a game this past weekend at 15 points with just my 2 heavies and eDoomy, mostly due to some pesky infantry. Hopefully the bomber conversion will help with that .

I'm on track to have the full trollbloods force (over 100 points worth) assembled by the end of January, which is my goal!! Then on to painting .

Here's some pics of the trollbloods with the grey primer and badab black wash, they've been this way for some time but I was too lazy to get pics! The last few are of a BSB I just made (will be used as a GW backup, just like the DP will be the backup for a 3rd party model) and an army shot of a planned hardcore list for 2.5K.

Like, totally awesuuum duuude!

Are the banners on the spear as flat as they look in the photo?
Looks from another angle the lower one flutters.
I like the fact that it has a warning! I guess that there would be neither the desire nor the time to stand and read the disclaimer!

Thanks! In that bottom pic, I was basically taking one of my "scary tournament build", minus the hellcannon (still have to buy it). So the shaggoth, giant, and 10 dragon ogres are all off to the side of the pic, sitting on the "bench" although in friendly games I'll be using them Plenty!

Color scheme will probably be green for the trolls, using lots of washes. I'm going to do a test model with the "washes only" method on a hound- unfortunately I primed grey and then did the black wash, instead of starting with white, so I'll have darker colors. It may fit what I'm looking for, though, so I'll give it a try! Would also make things much faster and give me encouragement to paint.

The banners are just paper at the moment (may swap out in future) that I curled around my finger to make it look "fluttery". So they are thin! But at least curl a bit. Is there a different material that people use to make banners that might be a bit thicker?

Thanks for the comments

P.S. Also, I think the banner says "Warma-" which would have finished "Warmachine", rather than "Warning" . It's from a PP model's blister picture, that's the fine print on the back.

So it does!
Just woke up when I saw it.
Hang on! how do I know you didn't just photoshop the lettering just to make me look stoopid?

oh. No need to go to so much trouble to do that!

The really thin styrene card might work Ritides.
It might be thin enough to curl as per paper, but will be thick enough to prime and paint.

Will try on a piece of scrap if I can find some amongst the bomb hit studio!

Edit: It worked on a strip of card from a margarine tub lid (approx 1/4" wide) so am thinking that plastic card should be fine
