I'm starting a WoC troll army led by throgg, with a heavy dragon ogre theme. I've already purchased 4 boxes of trolls, along with a box of black orcs and some cold one bodies (from Jin at GamesDay ) to convert dragon ogres. I'll be running this for an escalation league starting at 1000 points in October, and building up to 2000 points (500 every month). I plan to have 3000 points total.

Included in the final army will be:
18-24 trolls
10 dragon ogres
dragon ogre shaggoth
giant (using the forgeworld troll model if I can get it)
kholek suneater
throgg the troll king
and probably some harpies (need conversion ideas!) and possibly scyla afinngrimm, the jury's still out on him, though!

I've added in the harpies to my planning recently, since I've fallen in love with eagles for my stompy tree-list, and realize I'll need some mobility to go after war machines!

Anyway, here's the first troll I assembled last night, his name is Bob . Soon to be followed by his mates, Marvin and Edmund, which I'll be assembling tonight / tomorrow! And posting to give myself motivation

More to come!

Very cool idea I really look forward to seeing the monstrous horde you have going here!

Question though, what are the harpies going to count as? I don't recall any WoC harpies or units that would work as counts as... Anyway, I will poke around for good models for it. I have a few ideas I want to double check on back when I was making stormbitches for my Lost and the Damned.

And man, those river trolls are nice kits

Erhm, yes, now that I think about it, I don't think we have harpies Whoops! That's what I get for putting last minute thoughts / additions into my original post!

Perhaps scyla affinngrimm will make it into the list, after all! He's on the chopping block if I can think of good war machine hunters that fit the theme, though

Look forward to seeing how this works out >.< Seeing as how we are both working on the same army type ahah. I have a blog posted up where I started up my army so feel free to check it out if you havent. Cant wait to see your Drogres!!!

Also, any plans to make the Trolls a bit more Chaosy?

This is kind of exciting... an army full of stupid and stubborn creatures.

I'm looking forward to seeing it come together, and almost more excited to hear how it plays.

Very fun/cool.

Here, Marvin and Edmund have joined Bob

Finally the first box is together! I need to put together 10 more trolls, plus throgg, and convert 3 dragon ogres to be ready for the escalation league I'm a part of, starting the first week of October. 1 month to do it... I can do this!

One question- I'm using the GW plastic glue, and the only way I can control it is to put a blob on a tile, and then paint it on. Am I missing something or is this how others do it, too? I'm committed to using plastic glue rather than super glue so that they'll be fused together permanently!

Thanks for the comments, all . And I went and saw your blog Buttler, you're farther than me already!!

Will update with pics of the next set of trolls asap

Edit: I forgot to reply! I don't plan to make the trolls more chaos-y, as I like them as they are . Chaos isn't really my thing, so this army's going to look more orc-like if anything! What with the river trolls and the black orcs conversions for dragon ogres. I think it will play really well (fun, at least!), as long as I don't get hit with flaming attacks...! Or lose throgg and have a bunch of stupid trolls wandering around

Looking very nice, I'm seriously considering buying some of these trolls myself, simply because they look a) awesome and b) conversion parts! Only another 10 to go!

As for GW plastic glue, it's the only one I use and I have no issues with it, As for control, it's all about the grip, you need to be very gentle when squeezing the bottle. I always find with most of the GW plastic kits you need that extra bit of glue to squeeze out the between the two parts and prevent getting a horrible looking seam. My advice for doing fiddly stuff is to take a piece of sprue and shave down the end until it looks like a spatula and use that to paint the glue onto the areas, I find it is pretty good for application and you get the extra little bit of plastic added from the sprue spatula.

Lol I love this idea! a bunch of rampaging trolls and monsters without any alligance to anyone speciall just derping around and stomping stuff... it's going to be beautiful!
I like that your not going to chaosy up them, it makes them more unique and feral.

I tend to go for the plastic glues with the precision droppers since they tend to be more, well, precise
If the needle clogs you just run it under a flame till it glows, that way you burn the glue out of it.
Really looking forward to your lumbering horde!

Looking good, I guess I just got chaos in me eh? Seeing as how I plan to scuplt some khorne symbols here and there haha. Cant wait to see your take on the Drogres!

Any plans for a paint scheme yet? Since your going for more of an "orc theme" (which is ironic since I recall myself causing you to want to start an orc army? Maybe Im mixing people up, who knows?!) are you thinking of going without a chaos god alignment and just going for a basic river troll and black orc colors?

Thanks for the tips on the plastic glue, guys! I'll try the "sprue spatula" and let you know how it works

"Derping around and stomping stuff" indeed! I always yell "Stomp!" when I make that roll, now I might have to think of something to yell when making the stupidity roll ("Derp?")...

Buttler, I might have a go at making yellow trolls! There was a great Imperial Fists tutorial in the P&M forum that I might base whta I do off of:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/310209.page#1820915

We'll see how well it translates to trolls, though!

Nice
I like the idea and look of the new river trolls too, but will have to wait a while

I would love to see them in a similar yellow scheme to the SM's in the linky RiTides.
Would be good if blended over a pale lemony yelow, if you see what I mean. Might have to knick your idea for when I eventually get around to it

Looking good have you thought of using the beasts of chaos rather than Woc as your base you could then use harpies, just a thought.

I'm looking forward to your Dragon Ogre conversions!

If there come out nice, I'm sure you'll be able to teach us all a thing or two.

And/or just convert them up for me.

Either way!

re Cement
that would work RiTides
I tend to use the Revell Contacta with precision needle, but on occassion do like you but apply with a cocktail stick.

I keep some fine wire in the needle to stop it blocking.
Not sure I trust myself to go near a flammable bottle of cement with a nakee flame!

I'll look that up, Chibi! Jin has impressed on me that I need to ge the Testors plastic cement, so I'll probably try that, too .

Alpharius- are you aware that these are actually formerly your cold one bodies that I'll be using for the conversion? Via Jin at GamesDay (who bought them from you, but only needed the riders). Neat circle, that

Igice- I'll look at the Beasts book again, but unfortunately I don't think there's anything like dragon ogres and shaggoths in there, so I couldn't use some of my favorite parts of the army :-/. Harpies would be nice, though!

Here's a shot of the army that took the field for week 1 of the escalation league:

I was bailed out by mikhaila's excellent auction! Where I was able to pick up 8 ogres and a DoW Giant. One of the Ogres donated an iron gut club to the giant (who had previously weilded a gun) and I'll be added a few gnoblars to the platform on top. I actually quite like it!

For now, the ogres will stay painted as they are, while I do up the trolls . The troll with the large axe subbed for throgg for this battle.

So now I have 3 weeks to get some dragon ogres together so that I can go up to 1500 points . And hopefully get some paint on a few of these guys!! Will probably also put my DakkaCon projects in here (a BFG fleet, and a bloodbowl team) which might actually see paint first since they're a little less daunting . More to come!

Hey BobDaBeast,

Week 1 I matched up against O&G and Throgg showed why he is the man! Er... troll. Whatever...

Had a sound victory, going to have two games this week since my opponent and I last week couldn't work out a time. Will update on how they do

I think it is a rather mean 1000 point list, but I'm just learning how to use it so hopefully I can beat a rather skilled skaven player on Thursday (the same one who whooped my tail in my first test game with this list! and caused me to change to 1 unit of trolls instead of 2).

Looking pretty sweet man! I am itching to get some of those trolls too, but I think Mrs. Wehrkind will start putting models in socks and beating me to death with them if I do :(

Are bringing this horde to Dakkacon for tourney/open gaming? I really hope so; I would love to throw the Woadland Raiders against them

That will be my goal, Wehrkind, the problem is I've committed to having a blood bowl, BFG, and small warband done too . Time to get painting!!

If I run out of time the trees will definitely be coming with me for the open gaming, though

Also, was just browsing your gallery and Wow! You've got some great looking stuff!! Hopefully I can use some easy techniques to make my stuff look good enough to share the table with it

Very nice so far! Still can't wait to see that paint heh! I still need to play your army with mine some day. The sheer stupidity of that game would be amazing (pun intended!)!

Can't wait to see how you do in further games, as surprisingly Ive won all but one of my games so far, and all have been against different armies so its pretty ridiculous.

Ah, unfortunately I'm not having the same success, but I'm still pleased with the army. I got a draw vs. skaven, despite failing stupidity on the throgg and troll unit for 4 consecutive turns . Still, since I've never beaten skaven, that's almost a win

Just lost to a chariot beastmen army this morning, with a scouting lvl 4 lore of death caster, but I don't think there's any way I could have won it. It was nasty against my army!

Hopefully there will be some paint in the next update, although it may be on one of my DakkaCon projects . I'll post it here either way! Also will be assembling dragon ogres very soon.

Pics in the next update...!

Here are the pics as promised . I assembled like a madman this weekend to try to get everything done to prime before it gets cold. I only have the arms and heads of 10 trolls and throgg left and I'm DONE assembling 3K's worth of models

Ogres- I traded for unbuilt ones, assembled with GW in one hand and fist in other... plastic glue rocks! Should give me lots of options for how I field them, too (Chaos Armor, AHW, Great Weapons...)

Dragon Ogres- I stole some ideas from Buttler's blog, although I decided not to put round shields on their fronts for now, as they didn't sit too well. I did put armor on their backs to cover up some of the surgery, though!

Big stuff- I decided to get rid of those terrible DP heads, hopefully it's somewhat convincing . Also added a bunch of gnoablars onto the giant, and an ogre Tenderizer to the Shaggoth (to represent AHW).

Group shot of finished stuff . There are some hounds in there, although the parting line on them is rather terrible :-/. Also a shot of the unfinished stuff... only 10 troll heads/weapons and throgg to go! (Ironic that they're the last things done in my "troll army" )

Will post pics of everything all primed up later this week!!
