I liked Space Wolves before they were cool (Although it seems that recently more people hate the new dex than bandwagon to it.)
I do like Space Wolves too and their dex is just awesome. Still i dont play SW as im a huge fan of the Angels of Darkness ( DA and BA).
I have no idea what the issue is.
Romans and Greeks had chestplates that were idealized musculature and included the nipples. The BA armor is influenced by this. Nothing more.

The normal soldiers didnt wear it i think... it was the guys in command with money and all .
But im no pro in history so i could be wrong.

Competitive players will play competitively - they like winning.
You don't have to have a problem with them because you play your hobby differently. It's clear that not everyone plays this way, but the number of people who declare that they 'hate' new books just because of this...
I know people who hated Space Wolves before it was cool to hate Space Wolves.

Hi all.
Those player who just update thier armies rules when the new codex/army book come out are not 'Bandwagoners'.
Also peole who just buy the minatures they like are not 'Bandwagoners' either.
However those people who constantly change armies to buy the latest GW releases, are 'Bandwagoners.'
They have not done anything wrong per-sey.
But they DO have a negative impact on the 'GW hobby'.
As GW plc belive that game play issues and game development are not as important as marketing and asthetic conciderations.
'Bandwagonerz' support the GW corperate view that game development is secondary to 'kool aide' promotion.
If the majority of GW gamers didnt fall prey of the ' shiney new model / awsome new rulz syndrome ' .GW would have to focus on actual game development more, IMO.
(And a more even support of all factions is better for the game as a whole.)

I'm fine with bandwagoning. As long as the army looks half decent to look at, I don't really care seeing as I see the game as means of showing off my awesome miniatures.
Sometimes it is fun to play too...

I currently own several 40K armies, but I have never jump on the bandwagon. That includes starting my ThunderCav in Feb of this year and I know how Op they can be. My newest army i just started is the Blood Angels, I dont care if the army or the codex is overpowerful, I just want to be able to understand the tactics of each armies. All this give me a better understanding of how the army is play and see the strenghts and weakness. It doesn't matter is someone joins the bandwagon, as a player you should be prepare to play against any armies at any gaven moment.

I've thought about Cheese's response a bit and I think it's only halfway snarky. In effect, a new player might fare better against a vet if he's using an army the vet is not used to playing against. But I don't think this is a primary consideration for "jumping on the bandwagon," especially among newer players. To be fair, Cheese was talking about people who aren't that good rather than just new players. But that's where I think he's getting into a bit of snark. It does provide a good example of how the term is used negatively.

Whether you think it was practical or not does not negate the fact that they existed.

I wasn't trying to be snarky. I was giving my honest thoughts as someone who isn't a veteran 40k player.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

If your planning your Dark Eldar already then I would argue you are not part of the bandwagon crowd. Personally I've been dreaming of doing Dark Eldar ever since I started thinking up which would be my second army... Only reason it wasn't dark eldar is because the model line was sub par and the rumour mill of new models on the way kept me from leaping on them.

I already planned on starting skaven before rumors of their new codex and of 8th ed. The only bandwagon which is bad to join is the army that always (or almost always) wins. Looking for a game that doesn't have me vs any guard players, any takers?

It's okay when people jump on the bandwagon for a new release, but when they brag about how awesome the new codex is and go on and on and on about how "this is the army for me" or "I'll never play a different army" (then go to the next flavor of the month) it gets annoying. For instance, I'm sure I'm going to jump on the Dark Eldar wagon when they come out, but only because I want to see what it'd be like to play them. I don't plan on abandoning my current army in favor of them, however.

I'm ambivalent about it - I can understand that most of the time, people want the new stuff and start new armies. They may or may not keep them up.
Personally, I'd much prefer to have an army of rarer, OOP models, or all-converted counts-as weirdness. I never rush out and buy 'cool' new models when I can hunt for the 1989 versions on eBay.
However, the REASON there is a lot of complaints is that this is a hobby as well as a game, and the assumption is that the reason you play your army is because you really like that army. You come up with background, paint them nice, etc. The idea of taking it so seriously that you just buy the latest thing to win tournaments seems very unsporting to a lot of people, hence the complaints.

Nopey nope it is never okay to bandwagon.
If someone is choosing the latest shiny magpie's eyecatching baubles just because it is seemingly win likely, only to abandon that army when the next gewgaw gads along, then fie upon their miserable sad souls.
The only good thing about it is there will be plenty of bargains to be had on ebay when the lustre rubs off

Bandwagoneers support the hobby, and therefore the game prospers from them. i can accept that alot of gamers have ADD when it comes to new shiny armies.
that being said i dislike the jibber jabber of theoryhammer when a new book comes out without extensive playtresting.

I love it. It's fun to constantly play against new lists and new armies. Playing against the same 4-5 lists over and over again would get lame real fast. Not to mention, this means they are supporting the FLGS by buying new miniatures, which is also a plus.

Its fine, an army is for you - and you only. You can personalize it, and still play differently than another joe who has the same army as you.
Even if people go with the new 'flavor', not everyone will be. Chances too they are competitive gamers who won't paint their stuff jack either! haha

No need to quote THAT image again.
Although I still deny the existence of those mythical batman movies. There were two Tim Burton movies, two Chris Nolan movies and a really hammy 60s thing. This is all.
I know full well where the BA get their nipple armour from.
I'm an art heretic too. I just don't like the art style. Never have. Looked silly in Excalibur, too (mordred had it).
I've never liked the BA - even before it was cool to hate them.

I think it's ok. I mean if you have the money to waste on a new army every time a new book comes out good for you. However you probably won't ever master the army because you'll be busy with a new one.
I plan on playing dark eldar and skaven, people call me a bandwagon and I kind of am but I also have my reasons why I'm not.
DE: I've been wanting to play them but the models are gak. No one around me sells the models anymore (I know GW does but screw paying full price ). The fluff of the army interests me.
Skaven: The fluff interest me. I like "evil" armies but dislike chaos. IoB start set. I like all the war machines they get.
So some people may be band wagoning just for the "omg look at that power house hurr!" but some of us just needed an extra push to start the army.
