Thanks a lot. After working on a college's project, I decided to resume this. I've been working on the exhausts, and honestly, I got it "right" on the 4th attempt, so, I'm almost finishing.

On the final thing, I'll take some artistical liberties: I won't do the frontal lights, I just don't like how they look like in the model, and I won't make the "steps" on the doors, because I can envision them falling down (but I might paing something onthe doors so it doesn't looks so plain).

Thanks a lot, Souup.

Well, it's not perfect... in fact, compared to most things you can see here it's quite crappy, but personally, I'm happy with it. Perhaps I can pass all the imperfections as weathering and battle damage, who knows.

ive seen people with gw rhinos that looked worse than yours.

thou i need to say that even with its imperfections it looks good.

and like you mentioned it will look better when its painted.

what you can do before painting:add bits from other tank/rhino kits or plasticard logos as it looks a bit empty ^_^

for being scratch built that is pretty impressive. You have clearly taken the time ot capture the details that identify the rhino on the battlefield. Great job!

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress

Well, first trime scratch-building a vehicle... first time painting a vehicle.

I'm still far away from my (albeit humble) goal, which is having it nice enough so my opponents won't puke when seeing it.

well a thought accoured to me: maybe it would have been good to glue a sheet of paper over the cardboard, so that the texture of cardboard isn´t shown... as it is it looks a bit rough. and a tank should be made from steel. don´t get my wrong, your cutting work is really super, the model is classy its just that that you will get problems to wash and drybrush with the cardboard texture...

Very good work for a first.

Plasticard just takes time to get the skills down. Took me around 5-6 years before a mate told me the tricks (he could have told me earlier, but he was seeing if I could figure it out on my own).

Either paper, or I may try later for future rhinos (for they'll come) to paint some cardboard with some heavily dilluted PVA to see how it works.

Actually, my main woe with plasticard is that when I cut, no matter what I try, the ruler will move itself while cutting (perhaps I apply too much pressure), even when using masking tape to fix it on the table.

i´m not that good with plasticcard myself, but what i´ve read and what i can tell you from my own observations: dont cut plasticcard all the way through in one stroke. the ruler used for the first marking cut. that isn´t going deep enough. then when the space allows bend the piece. you might then cut on the other side and then have a clear snap. if space doesn´t allows then cut again and again, until your through. corners are a real pain, i´m working, more resting on a plastic card landraider myself. what i got my self into for this, bruises and near hart attacks... or nearly bitten off tongue... you know when you stick your tongue out when your really concentrate?... well i don´t have to draw a picture surely...^^

Well, I had this stopped because of the dreaded Real Life™ in the form of college and some excersizes at work.

Oh well, my crappyness on scratchbuilding is only matched by my (un)hability to paint. At least I've set a floor to myself, and from now on, I must try to get better and better.

did you use a template for the freehand(or is it actual real freehand)? it looks realy cool. i saw some minor flaws but all in all i think it is a very good tank and you can be proud. and yeah rl is a pain for every hobbiest be it wargaming or knitting^^

will you get problems from people who like wysiwyg? there are no weapons or other equipment...but i guess at this point you wont add them any more or do you?
also a question i want to ask you: now you know what effort you had to undertake to get this far, can we expect ore of this, will you make further scratchbuilts?

again i draw my hat mister, i like it^^

In all honestly, I've only played Necromunda, where the WYSIWYG is non-existant (we have a system for that).

I've seen Rhinos with no storm bolters nor smoke grenades, still, they're part of the basic non-optional wargear, so I guess anyone can assume they're there (and I'll always bring the Codex with me in case). If all fails, I'll add the weapons there.

Concerning the wolves there, I drew them on paper using the rampant wolf from the Great Company's badge, and cut the silhouete with a hobby knife. Then I placed it where I wanted my iconography and applied some dry brush fist, and then a wet brush in some places where I wanted the image to be more defined.

And I'll need at least 3 more rhinos (one will be a Razorback) for my upcoming 1000 points army, and a Land Raider for when I upgrade it to 1500 points, so yeah, there will be more coming.

Thanks for the support ^^

i´m glad of your answer, so that now i can look forward for new scratchbuilts of yours. well someday i should do my landraider attemt and conclude it. maybe i should made an attempt with a rhino first and also use cardboard. there are certain opstacles i wouldnt have had. plasticcard is really a pain in the a..
where did you get your cardboard from? and what glue did you use?
did it really help you construct the rhino chassis around that styrofoam body or will you do it next time without...?

also a hint maybe, i will use bottle catches for the tankwheels...sometimes they are ribbed too...

Well, in order:

Cardboard: I bought it literally 4 years ago and used a small portion of it. I don't recall how it's called, so I'll go with a sample next time I buy it xD but I do remember buying it on a really small art store that's about 600 strides from my place, so I guess it's easy to find. If the data is usefull, it's very compact and it has a 2mm thickness.

Glue: good old PVA for absolutely everything (with the exception of the exhausts, where I used super glue).

Styrofoam body: it helped a lot, and I'll keep using it.

Also, what are those botthe catches you mention?

Oh, I think I know what you mean, but here they're too big. I've tried them allready with no avail.

You should try. You can tell from the pics I've taken that it's not that hard.
