The IM models look pretty impressive. The WGF ones look like they have melted. The only pose that is anything like interesting or dynamic is the standard archer shooting pose.
I know they are more for bulk cheap models, but does that really mean they can only spend 30 minutes sculpting each figure, and can only use hot wax to do so?

I think it is good that there is a choice between cheap bulk figures and expensive character figures.
A lot of Ancients rules will give you 200 or so figures in an army.
Really detailed figures which need a lot of painting and are expensive and end up in ranks on bases are not actually that great.

Agreed,
For rank and file minis and those for bulking up units WGF is fine.
They look poor compared to other mini manufacturers but for the price they sell out at you can build up a whole heap of minis for next to nothing and reserve you hard earned time and cash for something a bit better like commanders and elite units.

Bad news whoever was waiting for Victrix, they've been pushed back to an estimated time of January
http://www.victrixlimited.com/news-74-15th-October-Progress-report-on-future-releases
On a side note, Immortal seems to have dropped off the radar. Its halfway through October and they havent updated their site in forever. There goes their September releases of hoplites.

They look rather nice if a bit squat, or squished. I think their calves are out of proportion.

See I would disagree, looking at them they seem well proportioned. Alot of people are used to heroic style for minis thus proportions are wayyy off as opposed to these which house realistic human proportions(err not American I mean as well fat is realistic here).

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Wasn't the average man much shorter back in the era these are representing?
If so, shorter and squat would be appropriate.
To me they look like every other ancient model I have seen. except these are plastic.

Mmmmm if Victrix puts out a whole line of Spartan Hoplites etc. I would be sorely tempted to build a WHFB army out of them. No idea what rules I would use, but it would be awesome.

Alright the Immortal Spartan and the Classical Hoplites should be shipping now. Also an interesting note from them
All change at Immortal Miniatures....
I have recently made the decision to hand over all sales of Immortal Miniatures to North Star Military figures.
I have become so busy recently that I have not had much time to make new figures, or give the customer service that I feel I should be giving. Shipping times have also been affected adversely because of this.
Handing over the “business” side of things to North Star will enable me to concentrate on adding to my existing ranges and starting new ones, while improving the quality of my figures and the depth of research into my ranges.
The change over will also allow me to update some of my older figures in terms of sculpting and research.
Metal figures are now unavailable from this site, although plastic sets will be unaffected in the meantime. Please bear with me while sales a switched over to North Star as metal orders will be delayed.
Thank you for your all your continuing support.

Poses aside, the IM and WGF minis appear to be around the same level of quality looking at the pictures in this thread. The IM spears are too fat and the spearheads and butts are too thick and big as well, the minis appear to have no wrists either.

Very ugly mini, his armor looks like it is melting. The quality of WGF seems to be getting worse, I got some of their Vikings and they were relatively good quality, and with tons of weapon, arm, and head options.
I also got a box of Shock Troops from them to make a quick infantry platoon along with some extra Cadians, and they had some very wierd problems. On the back of 2 of the 3 figures there was a half finished scolpting of another armor section, like they had not even looked over it before going into production. The necks were also a pain, I had to file them down like mad before they looked decent at all.
