and as long as they don't take a magic banner they may take magic items/bignames up to 50 points total.
Whoa really? I just noticed that. Is that for all armies or just them?
Just them
gutmagic buffs also stack now(with multiples of the same spell being allowed)
yes, T8, 9, or even 10 ogres is possable.
Good catch on the BSB equipment limitation being lifted, you are indeed correct. I didn't take the time to actually look at what the FAQ deleted
On the gut magic, are you assuming that gut magic spells are NOT remains in play spells? Because while T8 bulls are possible, under the RiP rules it would take 4 separate butchers casting 4 separate toothcrackers on that unit to make it happen - once a wizard casts a RiP spell they can cast other spells afterward, but they cannot cast the same spell again. Maybe you had this in mind, but it's a caveat that I know there's some contention over.

Gutmagic is NOT RIP.
They are like RIP in some respects.
they are spells with effects that last more then one turn and may be dispelled in the opponents magic phase at a power level of 7.
Butchers are also allowed to have more then 1 spell going at once.
the FAQ(IIRC) also put in that a butcher may have the same spell going multiple times.
the only limitation is 1 butcher may only cast 1 instance of the spell in 1 magic phase.

I'm not convinced yet that they so obviously aren't RiP, despite not saying "Remains in play" in the toothcracker, trollguts and bullgorger entries themselves. Thinking about it I always cast these spells as many times as I wanted in 7th, so it's curious that I wouldn't automatically do the same in 8th ...
I'll stomp over to the Stronghold and see if they came to something conclusive. Will be taking my ogres to Crossroads in a couple weeks, so having some ammunition to support me will help
EDIT
Looks like by RAW it's hard to argue that they are in fact RiP, but merely somewhat like RiP when it comes to turning them off. While I prefer to play a more RAI game, I'm thinking gut magic needs all the help it can get to hold up against the way magic works now. So ... making more gut magic tokens for the tournament!
Sorry for being so standoffish GT, you do in fact seem to know your ogre stuff

I'd be real hesitant to take the slave giants as they don't have the stubborn LD 10 like regular giants do. I would drop them and add in a scrap launcher (large template killing blow anyone) since you already have the gnoblars in the list. Heck you could use a stegadon model for the conversion.

Scraplaunchers are pure gold.
Don't discount Slave giants though. They aren't monster killers, but rather are RnF killers/Support unit. They are also good as a distraction, if the enemy shoots the giant they aren't shooting at your ogres.
they are 50 pts cheaper then other giants too.

Indeed. I'm thinking a giant box conversion here. not made from giant bow, but something like it with a catapult sling.
anybody know how closely the rhinox stats are to the stegs?

Nearly identical to a non-ancient stegadon, rhinox has one less attack so close enough.
