I consider carnifexes to be the tank-squadron of nids.

A tank squadron for guard allows 3 tanks as 1 HS. But any immobilized tank instantly explodes.

3 Fex for 1 HS slot is the same, except they never instantly explode, they just cost extra points as the downside.

For a cost-effective version you buy 1 Trygon or 1 Mawloc, but then you can't have 6-9 MCs as heavy support. A good balance decision, I think.
