The starting cost used yo be 80 points. You could have them as elite choices if you kept them cheap. and for less points than the current ones you could have them t7 and a 2+ armour save. Meaning that the only thing to fear was lascannons.

NOt really a rules question this...

Yes, they are now more expensive, and harder to field as dakka fexes (as the points are so high) - but you can field them in units, meaning you can also attach Primes to them in order to get cover saves for them.

The main thing is they made tervygons and malwocs so much better than them, just to sell the new models

Off topic, but how does that give them a cover save?

Fex + Prime behind Gants.

Shoot at them.

How much of the unit can claim a cover save?

Answer 50%.

Therefore, the Whole unit gets to use it.

Hey thank you everyone for the replies , and i can definatly see how they hurt the fexes by making them loose t7 and a 2+ save, which sounds very frightening.

I do.

Id rather fight 3 carnifexes than one damn trygon or mawloc.

Btw t7 and a 2+ is overpowered. Plasmaguns will have a tough time wounding that. Its just rediculous. Although, assault terminators would still squish it in one turn.

The reason Fex's are priced as they are is because:

1) Frag grenades. Useful, and not common in the army
2) Source of S10 instant killing goodness. If you have failed to kill the vehicle with shooting, you can still kill it with fexes.

But you have to buy those frags making them cost even more...

And frags on a (max) I4 model isn't exactly a deal maker.

The thing is, using a Carnifex to assault TH/SS termies is a phenominal waste of points. Firstly, the 3++ save will stop almost everything. Secondly, no invul save means attacking ANYTHING with a Power Weapon of any sort is a stupid Idea.

The only thing Fexes are "good" at (and I use the term loosely) is either assaulting tanks (who will never be in range since the fex will be dead before it can get to them) which Zoanthropes Do much better or killing Light Infantry with Ranged weapons (which EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE ARMY does better).

Meh, people have been finding success with units of two at higher point games. Its 8 wounds in one slot, and with bio plasma gives you some useful Ap2.

Really? You'd rather take 7 str 7 hits on the charge at I5, than 15 Str 10 hits on the charge at I4 (both with re-rolls)? Not me. Hit them with Catalyst for some extra beef, too.

what i don't like about this scenario is the points, 540 points for a single unit of 3 monstrous creatures that don't have fleet is a real problem, also letting them re-roll wounds would be bad when you have str 10 you don't want to go from a pratically guaranteed 2+ down to a 4+ with re-roll

You're assuming a gigantic unit with a 6" move and up to a 6" run is going to contact your enemy before taking (m)any casualties. Mawlocs and Trygons can come up anywhere on the board, cause units to be wounded in the process, and then easily be in assault range within the next turn. I believe they have a better save too.

Exactly the same save, in fact. Only HTs get a 2+ save nowadays.

Carnifices*.

Unless, of course, you're speaking Gothic and not Latin. In which case, carry on!

What can I say, it's something to do.

Actually, I'm a stickler for proper Latin grammar and syntax... but the bottom line is that these words are not Latin words, but Gothic words, and GW can spell them however they damn well want. The fact that they're based on Latin vocabulary does not give me an excuse to be a jackass.

But from time to time, I don't even bother with an excuse.

My mistake. The element of surprise and the burrow ability still makes them more valuable on the field IMHO.
