Hey guys, could you chill out please? It's a game where we play with toy soldiers. It doesn't make you any more of a man to win lots of games (especially if you play your net-listed guard armies, but that's a different story ).

I will say this though, if you melta a land raider, then your already in assault range of its contents and the land raider has done its job. It's a transport, it's not supposed to "make its points back." That would be the same as not taking rhinos because you didn't think they would kill 3 marines.

Well said, though I usually find that if you have to explain this to someone they have little to no understanding of the game in the first place.

Here's the thing... Land raider is excellent tank... Pretty hard to kill in low pts... But only in low pts because opponent must choose what to put in the list and thus won't have enough pts to make melta hell for it... But there is a reason why it is not good idea to play land raider in very low pts and why not to spam it in high pts...

In low pts, it won't allow you to take enough units (i mean it is 275 pts for usual build, and what will you take with it in 750?) and if you get across dedicated anti armor unit you will be left with nothing else to play with...
In high pts, on the other hand, every army is packing with (or at least competitive army) things to deal with heavy armor... And they'll be popping down your raiders with such rate you'll start to call them looted raiders... And then again, as in small pts, you'll be left with few units against mighty opponent and you will lose...

On the other hand, if you get across a beginner player who is not anti- heavy armor protected, you will blast him.. But if you wanna talk competitive all-comers list, you can't pull it off.... As SM player, I understand the urge of fielding 5 land raiders, and if playing for fun, why not... But if you're going to tournament, then only suggestion to improve your list is simple: Drop few land raiders

Re-work the list using Co:BA. They do it better because 5 man assault units can take Dedicated Land raiders and still be troops. My buddy runs a 2500 points list with 4 LRs, 3 preds, 1 drop furioso, meph, corbulo+CC termies, 3 priests. fully meched up plus the best character in the game. Everyone has feel no pain and furious charge. Fast preds unload their full armament after moving 6 inches and there are 6 TLLC shots screaming across the board to open up AV 13 and below with consistency. It is a sick, in your face list.

I routinely take 2 LRCs in my SW army. I wouldn't suggest more than 2 LRs in a list though. At that point them become such a huge point sink that you aren't going to be able compensate for all the melta shots. 2 will be good 3-5 and you're asking for trouble.

2 LR in a space wolf list is a big points sink! Wolf Guard in terminator armour are some of the most expensive terminators out there once fully tooled up

I didn't say two LRCs full of WGT. I like to fill mine with Bloodclaws or GH with Ragnar, WP, WG or you can substitute a regular WL for Ragnar if you like. And while WGT are expensive the ability to kit them out however you want and benefit from multiple weapon load outs is well worth it.

2. I think taking more than 2 Land Raiders is a waste of points, but I don't think any army built for competitive play would be prepared to take on 5 Land Raiders. At most they will prepare with 3 units designed to take out the heaviest tanks possible, destroying 5 LRs before turn 2 (which is when their cargo arrives whether you like it or not) would be taxing for any army.

I do wish more people would realize this.

I know Vassal can never replace actual 40k, but with so many people criticizing his list, I can only feel like he is either an amazing general, or just a relatively big fish in a small pond. Either way, I'd like to see him actually using the list, and I live nowhere near him, so Vassal is my good friend
