A pet? A Sister of Battle, no doubt in my mind. Beyond the convience of having a woman around the house (cooking, cleaning, etc), she could also smash gak. so yeah, it would be pretty sweet

No, the D&D creature is a beholder.
He meant a 'watcher in the dark'. Little hooded creatures hiding at caliban and later in its leftover, the rock ( fortress monastery of the
Dark Angels ). The only existing model IIRC is the helmet-bearer of Azrael.
