I'm looking at Google Maps right now, there seem to be plenty, but mostly clustered in large cities. San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Houston seem to have the biggest clusters.

Louisville is the 29th largest city in the U.S. by population, and the closest GW to me is a couple hundred miles away, if that tells you anything.

I haven't paid full retail for GW in the last 10 years.

At aussie prices you'd be insane to unless you had no other option.

Big purchases go offshore. Regular, smaller ones go to a local net dealer. Savings of not less than 20%.

This thread is pointless, since just about anyone with an ounce of sense will order from a discount site. Never buy anything at full price unless you absolutely have to.

Well, sometimes it's the only actually reliable way to actually get your stuff.

Barring the odd impule buy when I swing by the GW shop in the mall, I almost exclusively buy from my FLGS. Prices cheaper than GW, he will order in anything my heart desires (he even takes forgeworld orders for the guys at the shop so we can take advantage of free shipping) he provides space to play and often supplies snacks for free while we play, and stays open as long as there's people playing. So, as a thanks for doing that for the player community, I think I can spend an extra couple of bucks over an online source.

I order a lot of my items online from retailers on Amazon. I've ordered from GW, and I've bought from Tower. It depends on what I want and if I want to drive the hour to get to Tower.

If I actually played at my local GW, or had a FLGS I'd probably pay retail.

I tend to buy from Games Workshop for convenience as it's my nearest games store. GW is close enough for me to pop in during my lunch break, which I'll do just to chat with my mate that works there. I'm also a sucker for shiney new boxes, and off eBay I will generally only buy boxes or unpainted models.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

FLGS is 20% off so I buy there. Supports the local store, and saves me some cash. If the store I buy at wasn't around, I'd be buying through discount retailers online.

The other reasons I buy from GW are quite simple.

1- My local GW is about 1.6 miles from where I live. If I'm feeling athletic I can easily go cycle down to pick stuff up.

2- I have recieved (shock horror) free stuff from the local GW including: a hard to find £12 Best of White Dwarf: Return of the King and a plastic Fellowship. I have also been loaned glue and clippers at the store when I have forgotten my own.

3- I have had excellent service from their online store, generaly if I order something I get it 2-3 day later.

1-5% GW direct.

I tend to buy stuff from GW in 15-20 dollar chunks, qualifies for free shipping and no tax. Get the sprues and minor bits that I need asap.

I always buy something when I am at the FLGS to help out.. paint is my biggest buy there.. as well as OMG New Stuff!

Bartertown.com for just about everything else.

I buy online because there is a huge gaming store dead zone of about an hour and a half in all directions from my home. There are a couple comic stores that will order for you so you can take advantage of the discount but they dont really carry anything in store. (It also makes gaming kind of tough, they do have the War game dating board so you can post and connect with other players in your area, but theres about a zero chance that I could pack up my minis, march in the door and find someone to face off against)

I'm a huge fan www.thewarstore.com Good prices and great service. Plus Neil did me a huge solid once with a defective GW product so I hope this gets them a little more business.

I shop at the FLGS, people are easier to deal with than call centres. Also they're the only wargaming shop in the city (that's New Zealand for you) so if they close, we're screwed.

I live in Australia and I only use my local GW in cases where I need stuff immediately and for all the hobby stuff (paints, glue, codex).

Otherwise I order from waylandgames and wait 2-3 weeks.

I get tinges of guilt at times when I visit the local GW but then I realise that I wouldn't be able to even play the game if it wasn't for the discount websites.

So yeah, I would love to shop at GW, great staff, great service but I can't justify passing up models that are half GW's retail price.

And I really hope those who support their local GW don't judge the online buyers as sometimes that's the only way for them to keep the hobby alive.

I buy a lot from GW but I mostly get stuff from ebay because it is cheaper and not having a job doesn't allow you to pick the better option.

But ebay can be amazing at times. Got my entire tau army from it for under £60 and I'm pretty sure its at least 2000-2500 points well built (bar 1 model) and nicely painted.

However my entire DE Fantasy and DE 40k armies are bought purely from GW shelves.

Recently I did find a site called giftforgeeks that gives a 10-20% discount.

GW have the best postage and never run out of stock. I once tried another website (no names) and they came 3 weeks later with only 2 of the 3 things ordered.

What I buy breaks down to this:

90% FLGS- I play there every few weeks and feel abliged to support them. They are the closest game store within 50 miles of me, and if they went under I would have a hard time finding another store. They also generaly have slightley beter prices than GW.

10% GW website- this is usually only when the FLGS does not have something or I can not make it there. The store is about an hour away from me, so I do not make it there often, and I will sometimes buy something if I know I will not be there a few more weeks and want it soon.
