I suggest using Katanas in place of Powerswords and Chainswords.

I don't think Katana's go with the 'Monk feel' that's been generated so far. To Scout ninjas maybe?

Cool.

I realy like the idea behind and asian based chapter. Remember that Space Marines are a mix of Modern Soldiers and Knights. Your chapter should be a mix of Soldiers and Samurai. I agree that you should do Black Templar as your rules sett. If you want a more ruff asian look, like barbarian, Oni Masks and clubs I would suggest Space Wolfs instead.

For insperation I would leaf through How to Paint Space Marines. The last page (page 97) got some Asian converted SM caled the emperors shadow who looks absolutly great. And if you wnat conversion parts I would try to get my hand on the blood angel guards, they have some vero good convertion parts.

Just remember fluff wice, the chapter must worhsip the emperor formoast in somefor. Perhaps they see him as there ancestor spirit. Also consider jade power weaponds, and read a bit about kami regligion (power of the machine spirit anyone?)

Hi, just a quick reply that I've been working on a few things for this project. This includes finishing up my current work-in-progress Killteam comprised of Orks & Grot Tanks (for discipline reasons...I want to get in the practice of finishing 1 thing before really getting into the next.)

I'm taking almost all the ideas here as well as some from other forums, so my task has been mostly that of an editor...and it's been great. You know, I always felt I'm the type of sad nerd that'd grab someone to tell them about my 20th level Paladin with maximum Charisma. This time, it's been more fun to just listen to you all.

I'm putting your ideas together, which I'm preparing to share this weekend. I think you'll find it entertaining how your thoughts came together, like warp daemons merging until they formed Slaanesh and exploded the Eldar empire. So if you got time, maybe come back here early next week.

I'm a bit late to the game here, but if you're not really in love with the rules for Black Templars, you could always wait a few more months until the new Daemonhunters come out in early 2011. That way, you'd only need to paint a relatively small number of Grey Knights, so you could make each one highly ornate and decorated. The Power Glaives that they use seem very monk-like (at least moreso than a sword), they're meant to be covered in scriptures and icons already, and you'll have a presumably powerful codex to play with rather than the questionable BT one (apologies to any BT players, but the book does have its issues).

If you wanted to include Inquisitional elements, you could refluff them to be monks and whatnot. Then you'd have an opportunity for cool Buddhist Guardsmen conversions, too!

I may have to steal this idea, by the way. I might go a little more Taoist, though, depending on what cool iconography I can find.

Bear in mind that I'm a very casual player, and any advice I give will reflect that tendency.

So would they be bitter rivals with the white scars, since they are mongolians/huns?

No, you're not late and we warmly welcome you. Partly, because you were the 1st to mention the Daemonhunters Codex...I must have missed the rumours on this because I thought only Necrons were early 2011. And I agree with all you said, from small numbers to Power Glaives to even "regular human" elements by your Guardsmen conversion. I think you'll soon see why...at least I hope the end product will explain by itself.

So I was going to mention on several forums to say that I'm consolidating all your ideas. This has so grown that I no longer consider it my own concept. If people ask me if this was my idea, I'd say, "No, it's from the collective hivemind that is the Interwebs."

My role now is merely that of an editor...which is actually quite fun and challenging. I was also going to say that you all might be surprised and disagree with some of those editorial decisions. And I think that, should I succeed at all, the key is in the framework that I've built to house your ideas.

Precisely because there's been so many different perspectives that I wanted to capture, I created a framework that can maintain a common identity yet is designed to be scale with many ideas. The comparison I'll make is with when the Space Wolves were 1st "re-booted" in the 1st edition. It used Ragnar's Company of Space Wolves to illustrate all sorts of new ideas, yet allowed any player to make his own individual Company freely.

Seriously, stay tuned. I'm glad I chose this framework because I know I have some gaps I don't know how to fill, but now I reckon those very gaps give everyone, including you, space to work with if you so wish. This includes what you said about Daemonhunters. No, you're not late...the fun part's just beginning. And I believe this goes for everyone.

Having just seen mention of the Daemonhunters codex, that brings up another idea/reason behind my "initial" idea for you. another option to me, would be Space wolves... some of the options would give you extra attacks depending on how many models were killed the previous turn. My thinking is, as these martial arts masters get into battle.. the more things they kill, they will get into a "zone" to where the battle moves slower, they can see more and clearer, see weaknesses in the enemies and exploit them before the enemy knows there is a threat to them.

Since you are going for more of a monk/Buddhist feel for a chapter, why not go for more of a Shaolin style? All the CCWs would be those that could be seen and found at any of their temples, the Neophytes and trainees having shaved heads and the more senior ranking would have appropriate levels of topknots/hair

As a modeling idea, if you are good with Greenstuff you can use many more of the assault type legs to accomplish many more "action poses" by swirling their robes and whatnot.

maybe not the best example, but still something of an idea.

Regarding Buddhism, as a genuine religion of peace, life is sacred which would suggest that this chapter would be particularly offended by the concept of chaos which corrupts life, necrons which are anti-life, and tyranids which are destroyers of life beyond themselves.
I can see these guys having problems with the inquisition over dealing with mutants and alien races like the tau and even orks - as in refusing to wipe out populations of these simply because they've been ordered to.

I agree that the shoulder guards do not look right for a marine in power armour, the traditional armour though could be used by scouts or human allies and even by Terminators as it would work well with the heresy era shoulder armour the terminators had.

Regarding heads, bare eldar heads would be the way to go, though you'd need to remove the hair. The eldar heads have a more asian look about them.

Banner poles for sergeants obviously replace with the long thin flags used by east asian warriors.
Power swords should be the normal type as they fit in with the chinese swords better, but make them thinner perhaps.

Vehicles - only thing so far is to have land speeders that look like flying dragons.

I wanted to make an asian themed chapter awhile back but never got around to it. In my fluff the chapter was named the Jade Lions (lions such as the Foo Dog and the White Snow Lion are sacred to Buddhists, I should know because I am one ), they where founded by a captain of the White Scars who had embraced the teachings of the codex astartes following the Horus Heresy.

I based my chapters founder off of Sun Tzu the general who wrote The Art of War. My chapter was based more off of the idea of mastering war and martial skills then the religious nature of monks although I did incorperate Buddhist imagry and referances into the chapter.

I love the image you had created and would like to see where this army goes. Good luck

Oh and also for heads might I suggest WHFB Chaos Marauder Horsemen heads? I've used them to make helmetless White Scars as they look partially asian, with a little cutting here and there they could look more chinese then mongol.
