+5 Points over a rhino for a heavy bolter is well worth it if you need to save the points from an assault/lascannon on razorbacks.

I add generic razorbacks to my Long Fang packs and don't upgrade the weapon by just leaving it a HB. Have had nothing but good things come from it.

I dont like heavy bolters on footsloggers because I have the extreme misfortune of playing chaos.. In a Havoc squad (the only footsloggers I would put them on), heavy bolters are 15pts a pop and a squad of 5 with 4 heavy bolters is 135pts compared to 115pts on a long fangs squad.. And I can't even split fire :(

valid. same as generic marines, but i would rather take 12 shots... over 4 any day... no matter what the strength. lol

I like pissing of opponents by dumping heavy bolter fire into his favorite terminator squads for the occassional 1s that always pop up with so many wounds. Hell, it pisses, e off when people do it to my WGTDA.

For 115 points on long fangs, they ridiculously get back their points, and some more. Its even funnier when they are ignored. 15 bs4 shots at S5 ap 4?

That could be a case of having a cost-effective unit to spam them with. A Long Fang with a Heavy Bolter is what, 20 points?

Thats 2/3 of what it costs for most other options not to mention its more firepower in 1 FOC slot then is possible elsewhere.

I want to like them because they seem to iconic but it feels like they don't have a place in an all-comers list unless you really load up on your anti-tank elsewhere and have a cheap way to field a bunch of them like LF.

Actually, the only reason I field them is because they DO belong to an all comers list. They can take on bikes, TWC, green tide, kan walls, mech vets, terminators, deathstar armies, ALMOST EVERYTHING. The wonderful thing about HB spam is they do not run out of proper targets. Ultimately and funnily, they take back their points on a consistent basis.

While C:SM dont have the cheapiness of Long fangs. They can take the HB spam speeder squadron, in which I assume you'll still have space for your typhoons, melta bikes and what nots.

This (combined with combat squads) and land raiders. Infantry HB's, though, are a waste, for the simple reason that the boltgun, the mainstay of most meq armies, is a perfectly good anti-personnel weapon by itself. Of all the things these armies don't need much more of, it's crowd control.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?

Hm, by far I think their hey day was in 4th edition, where you could take 30 of them in a marine list, 12 of which would have had tank hunters. Now though you simply can't put out enough of them cheaply to make them matter for infantry purposes. I could see them being run on attack bikes or landspeeders but I would rather run Ass Cans or MM on those respectively.
